If you have only one day in Seoul and you want to get a feel for what Korea has to offer, what would you do? where would you go? where would you eat?

I have to guide someone around Seoul on Friday ...and she wants to get a taste of what Korea is all about. company is picking up the tab on this one.

I was thinking the obvious...eating around insa-dong and then checking out the seoul tower at night.

hmmmm...what else? any ideas would be much appreciated

Go to a park on the Han River, 1 hour at COEX, goto Bongeun-sa, go up to the 52rd floor to Marco Polo for wine and dinner, take a cab to Apgujeong and go to a few clubs like Once in a Blue Moon. That's what I'd do.

If it was me, I'd go to a show in Hongdae and spend the night in the park, weather permitting.

Go to Itaewon for some good food (curry, french, mid east, ital) and then get pissed in Hongdae. Nothing brings company together like alcohol abuse.

Insa-dong sounds good, but the fact is traditional Korean culture is almost as foreign to Koreans as it to us foreigners; why not let them see the modern side of the country? Maybe see Insa-dong during the day for an hour or so if you want. I like Mith's idea:

one time, i met up with a friend of mine, and we went to insadong, myeong dong, dongdaemoon for a very shot bit, and we walked around namdaemoon for a bit too. But that was like 4 pm to 10 30 or 11. Oh, plus, we were in that icerink area where the ring of lights was. Lotte mall, downtown

Cheongyechun stream, City Hall, Myeong-dong, Namsan Tower, Dongdaemun during the day. Hit up Jongno at night for a taste of Korean-style nightlife. All these areas are within cheap cab rides from each other.

Why would you spend your one day in Kangnam mithridates?

I mean it usually has the hottest girls and all, but the best attractions are all located in the downtown core of Seoul.

The Cheongyechun stream, Insadong, the two palaces, Namdaemun, and
Myongdong are all within either walking distance or a short cab ride of one another.

You could easily see 2 or 3 of those sights during the day and then eat some samgipsa and go clubbing in Hongdai.

Do what I did:

My mate had a 12 hour stop over on the way to Canada from NZ. I took him to a small Galbi restaurant, I ordered dwaegi galbi and some other stuff in Korean.

Part way into the meal, I told him it was dog. He freaked out and threw his toys. I ignored him and kept on eating. The delicious smell from the meat kept wafting and he eventually gave in and chowed down. He still thinks to this very day that I tricked him into eating dog.

After that we did a pub crawl between Insadong and Jongno. I made sure he was well plastered by the time he got back in the plane.
