In another thread we were talking about how I met Kiefer Sutherland and he was a complete jerkwad, so what are your random brushes with fame? The more ridiculous and B-list, the better.

Here are the few I can think of off the top of my head:

1. In addition to Kiefer Sutherland, I also met Michael Douglas on the set of the Sentinel. He was really cool, and hung out with the extras all the time.

2. When I was a kid, my dad worked for an organization called "Community Concerts," which brings orchestras and choirs and the like to little cities/towns all over America. Rockapella (the group who sings the theme song to Where in the World is Carmen Sandiago) came to our town every year, and I would hang out with them backstage. I have very little memory of this, but according to my dad, they thought I was the coolest little kid ever.

3. Got hit on by Paul Rudd while he was hanging around outside of a women's bathroom in a nasty concert venue/bar in Kansas.

4. I worked for a federal agency for a while, so I met lots of various political-type people. My favorite was when I met Madeline Albright, because the first thing she said to me was, "I love your shoes!"

Also, one of my best friends used to work at a movie theatre in Hollywood that was hosting some premiere of a Patrick Swayze movie. When she met him, she said, "Nobody puts baby in a corner," and he apparently threw a temper tantrum in the middle of the movie theatre lobby and refused to go to his own movie premier afterward.

Met the Smashing Pumpkins sitting on the floor of Kimpo's Air terminal.

Saw Mean Joe Green at my friend's house.

Shook Ken Kesey's hand at a book signing.

My dad gave a briefing to George Bush Sr.

Didn't we do this several months ago?

Back in 1990 & 1991

At the Great Greek Restaurant on Ventura Blvd, I waited on:

The Red Hot Chili Peppers

Bobby Unser Junior - Race car driver

Rob Lowe & James Spader Not long after Bad Influence came out -(1990) - Spader was a regular at the restaurant and he is cool. He also is a toker (was back then anyway)

Liam Neeson

Paula Abdul

Jack Palance - The old guy that played in so many westerns and also played Curly in City Slickers (1991).

Rosannes sister in her tv show.

Jerry Van Dyke from the TV show Coach

Dan Aykroyd

Alan Thicke

Michael J. Fox

Dolph Lundgren

And a few other B actors

Dated a Korean American girl that was a writer for a couple of TV shows.

15 years later, while driving my wife through LA, I decided to drive her by the restaurant to show her where I used to work when I lived there. I'm driving by the restaurant and I look out the window and see this guy that used to work in Tony's liquor store next door. He lived right up the street and he was my age. I stopped and talked to him. He even remembered my name...that was cool.

They were all cool except for one person...Dan Akroyd. There's a narrow hallway that leads to the bathroom. I was coming out of the bathroom heading back into the restaurant and he was coming in, we almost ran into eachother - he gave me a really dirty look. I'll never forget that jackass.

Ah shoot, I forgot:

George Buehler Oakland Raiders
Ahmad Rashad Minnesota Vikings
Jack Lambert Pittsburgh Stealers
Carl Eller Minnesota Vikings
Steve Grogan New England Patriots

I refereed a soccer game that Roger Staubach's daughter was playing in and he was on the sidelines watching. after the game he came up to us and complemted us on our performance

I spent an afternoon at Dallas Cowboy training camp with Hank Stram as a my guide, the Raiders were training with them and my father-in-law got me field passes as he was in charge of the facilities of the univ where the Cowboys worked out. Hank was the consumate pro as he was doing prep work as for the upcoming season and he took the time to show me the ins and outs. At the same event I met Al Davis, Art Shell, Jerry Jones, Jimmy Johnson and Micheal Irvin. The funny thing about my meeting of Irvin was I was standing there with Hank and Micheal calls me over because he wants a sheet of paper from my note pad to give his number to a stripper.

After Jimmy was fired, I met Barry Switzer and rode his Harley.

Back in the 80's I was at spring training in fla and on one of the back fields at Cincinnati Reds facility I met Ted Kluzuskei, hall of fame player working with some of the minor leaguers. 2 weeks later he was dead.

Had backstage passes to a Billy Joel concert and met him and his mother. He was married to Christie Brinkley at the time and much to my disappointment she wasnt with him Crying or Very sad

RAn into James Cameron once, walking along the harbour. Made eye contact, did the small town "hey, how're ya doin" nod then wondered why he looked so familiar. Didn't put it together until that afternoon when I heard that he was in town prepping for another trip to Titanic.

US Celebs

1) Ray Lio.tta - actor, and neighbor. I also know his daughter, Karsen. He also bought me lunch at a local cafe. Very cool and funny guy once he gets to know you.

2) Holly Kni.ght - grammy award winning artist/songwriter, and neighbor. I also know her kids, who are in middle/high school.

3) Jam.ie Gold - winner of the recent $12M poker tournament, and neighbor. Haven't seen him since he won the tournament, but my friend has seen him around.

4) Pietra Tho.rnton - Billy Bob's ex-wife, Playboy centerfold, and neighbor. I also know the kids Willie & Harry (who I taught some Korean to).

5) Vlade Di.vac - Former NBA player and neighbor.

6) Suge Kn.ight - Music industry thug. He lives near me, but I only met him once at the gas station convenient store -- where he cut in line in front of me because he was in a rush to get chapstick.

7) Angela W.ilder - Former NBA player James Worthy's ex-wife, writer, and also a neighbor.

Cool Tori Spe.lling - Actress. Saw her at a restaurant in Malibu.

9) Dav.id Spade - Actor/Comedian. Saw him outside a Mexican restaurant in L.A. (El Coyote).

10) Andr.ew Dice Clay - Comedian. Saw him on the Sunset Strip.

11) Ron J.eremy - Porn King. Used to see him on a weekly basis at the Roxy (on the Sunset Strip).

12) A.lexandra Paul - actress, Baywatch. Very, very, very nice woman. Probably the nicest person I've met, period (even outside the celebrity world). She also has an identical twin sister who she introduced me to, who happens to be a firefighter/writer. The husband is also very nice.

13) David Faustino - actor, Married with Children. Saw him at a movie premiere more than 10 years ago.

14) Rudy - the guy who played "Rudy" (Sean Astin?) -- saw him at the same premiere I mentioned above... I think it was for "The Frighteners".

Korean Celebs

1) Roo'Ra - old K-pop group from the 90's. I met them in '95 when I was interning at a Korean production company in L.A.

2) Kim Gun Mo - Also met him in '95 at a party in L.A... the owner of the house was the head of the production company.

3) Na Hoon A - the older Korean will know who this is...

4) Tae Joon Park - chairman/founder of POSCO -- met him in L.A. also at the same house mentioned in #2 back in '95.

It's funny, but all Korean celebs I've met were in the US. I never met any while in Korea.

That's really all I can think of for now.

Then there are others that are not really celebrities, but somehow connected -- like producers, artists, composers, business guys (Milken, etc.), etc.

oh yeah, I also know Archie Bunker's real-life daughter-in-law! She also lives across the street from Michael Richards (the N*gger guy).... who happens to live near Elaine from Seinfeld, who happens to live close to Larry David, the co-creator of Seinfeld, who happens to live near Tom Hanks. I also know the occupant of Bruce Willis' former home, which happens to be a few houses down from Halle Berry.

Oh, yes, and Chevy C.hase used to live across the street from me. Only spoke with him once very briefly.

BTW, I moved a few months ago to a more... 'rural' area to get away from city life so now I don't see any celebrities at all.

It's always a trip to see celebrities -- I never got over the excitement, even though I saw them a lot, and sort of worked in that industry for a while.

---------------

Someone mentioned they saw Billy Joel though --- if I ever met him, I would flip out and go nuts. He is like a god to me... even though he's a lot shorter than I am. Oh well, I guess I can always go to one of his daughter's shows...
