Anyone going to check out the gay festivities?
I wonder if it will be anything like what happened this week in Moscow.

The parade route is tiny, and people wearing red-ribbons are not to be photographed. Wow, not in West Hollywood anymore, Toto.

Why wouldn't they want to photograph red ribbons and raise awareness about AIDS? It seems they are scared of foreigners since we all have AIDS (and are pedophiles) and would want to teach people to be safe.

the red-ribbons mean people are in the closet and don't want their photographs distributed or published. it's an interesting and sad fact that they have to go to those lengths. |

What you mean the parade route is tiny? Go to any part of seoul and you are guaranteed to see waif like young men prancing round dressed in bright pink sweaters, holding each others hands, carressing each other, carrying man bags, taking love shots of each other on their hello kitty decorated handphones.
They're here! They're Queer, Get over it! |

Umm, so these people are gay and they don't want people to know they are gay so they are wearing red ribbons which mean they can't be photographed. I don't somehow think that's going to deter any photographers.
However, they are still taking part in a gay pride parade. Hmm.

Ok, guys, calm down. For you straight people this must seem absurd (and for the record I disagree with it, no more closets for anyone) but remember what country you're in. This is the country where a grown, university educated person will tell you with a straight face that there are no gay people in Korea (except us foriegners, with all the AIDS). This is also the land of shame and face and the BS respecting your parents even if they are total shiites.
Like a previous poster said, baby steps are still steps. |

A friend of mine went to see a musical last night called "Thrill Me" with her co-teachers. The story apparently involves a love story between two men.
She's Korean, and she's only recently been introduced to anyone who's "out." She's cool with it, and I asked her whether she whispered to her friends: "Hey! I met some gay guys!"
She replied: "I wanted to, but they didn't like the story."
I also mentioned that there's a "gay festival" coming up. She asked "Oh! What do they do?"
I couldn't come up with something in time to prevent the awkward silence as our imaginations ran wild... |
