|
|
My friend is on the pill and she's going on a beach trip soon, but the beach trip coincides with her period. So she's thinking of going off the pill before the trip and thereby inducing her period early so that she doesn't have it on the trip. I remember my girlfriend doing stuff like this back in the day, but I can't recall the exact mechanism of it. Is that how it works? Can somebody tell me some details? She specifically wants to have it early and not to skip it.
And yeah, don't ask me why she turned to me for advice on this. |

| If she starts her next pack of pills immediately at the end of the current one and skips the week of placebo pills, she can skip her period completely. Only downside is that if it's the first time she's done it, her body might not be used to it and there might be some really light bleeding during that week anyway. |

I told her that but apparently there's some other thing going on the next month, so she doesn't want to do that. |

So what if it coincides with a beach trip. There are such things called tampons. You can swim with them in. Then you don't have to bother re-scheduling anything in your life. I don't get women who refuse to use them. Instead they would rather cause drama and reschedule things in their life that aren't really necessary. Just tell her to suck it up and use a tampon for the beach. The end. No drama.
However, if she is absolutely terrified of the big bad tampon (which some Korean women are... whatever), then what one of the sarah's said is likely the best bet. Just continue taking the pills, and skip that period. Easy as pie. |

| In answer to your question, I think if she stops taking the pill a little over a week before the beach, the hormone fluctuation should trigger her period. It's been a while since I've been on the pill though, so who knows? |

I'm assuming tampons are ruled out already, based on the post.
She could just keep taking pills, no breaks in between for two months. It won't hurt her. BC pills were designed that way, but most women like the reassurance of a period, and the drug companies know this.
If she stops taking the pills mid pack, the results are a bit less predictable. She will bleed at some point, probably within 5 days of stopping, but no guarantees. The other thing is, that you'd need to use a second form of birth control for at least a week after she starts taking the pills again. If it were my body in question, I'd say use 2 forms for a month, just to be safe. |

I'm sorry to tell you this, but only floozies and street hookers use tampons, buddy. |

| My ex gf had a heck of a time with pills, timing, and changes. If you mess with your hormones, you'll be sorry. If I were a woman, I would not mess with BCP just to change the timing of my pd. |

Well I'm a girl, first of all, and in most western countries this simply isn't the case. Good try though. |

| I had endometriosis for years and had to take the pill continuously. It doesn't hurt anything and she can do it for 3 months if she wants. no problem. she may bleed a little here and there but maybe not. |

| I heard their periods attract bears. The bears can smell the menstruation. |

I can believe that. A female friend often complains at the odors in women's toilets. p.s. don't shoot the messenger and all that |

Based on experience, I think her best bet would be to take it continuously for three months, if need be. It won't hurt her. As was said before, the pills are marketed with a week off and bleeding time every month for the reassurance of the woman.
(There was no way in heck I was gonna travel to Korea in the middle of my period. No, thank you!) |

Some women will still not have the period early. If she has been taking the hormones for more than a year, her periods may be set and she could end up having a two week period.
She is better off just taking the pills for an additional month. This would set her next period back by one week. |
