Mr Falwell was a strong opponent of abortion, homosexuality and many other issues that conflicted with his fundamentalist Christian beliefs.
His statements on feminism and race issues often outraged liberals.
In 2002, he sparked anger across the Muslim world by calling the Prophet Muhammad a "terrorist". He later apologised.
Shortly after the 11 September 2001 attacks, he said that gays, atheists, civil-rights activists and legal abortions in the US had angered God and "helped this happen".
In 1999, he denounced the BBC TV children's show The Teletubbies, because he believed one character, Tinky Winky, was homosexual.
|
Tinky Winky caused 9/11? Luckily he never found out La La is an atheist!
Quote: |
US President George W Bush paid tribute to Mr Falwell, 73, who he said lived a life of "faith, family, and freedom".
President Bush said both he and his wife, Laura, were "deeply saddened" by Mr Falwell's death.
"He taught young people to remain true to their convictions and rely upon God's word throughout each stage of their lives," Mr Bush said. |
If your convictions are homophobia and hatred of the ungodly.

If he got turned on by the Teletubbies he should have just said so |

I'm just relieved he died of natural causes, and not something weird like being sodomised by a horse. Anyway, here are some relevant Biblical quotes that I hope they fit onto his tombstone.
"But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded him to say, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, must be put to death.
"You may say to yourselves, 'How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the Lord?' If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the Lord does not take place or come true, that is a message the Lord has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him" (Deuteronomy 18:20-22 NIV).
"But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them - bringing swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping" (2 Peter 2:1-3 NIV). |

I feel a bit sad for him. He dedicated his life to the Christian faith and the belief in a personal God. Now he's just dead. No God. No resurrection. No Jesus waiting with open arms. His last thoughts were, "I'm going to meet my God". And he's not even there. |

My two best friends went to his university in Virginia. My one friend became a completely brainwashed, hardcore Christian. I really resent Jerry Falwell. Before going to his university, my friend was a pretty open guy and let people do as they please, but after 2 years of attending that school he thinks everybody that isn't like Jerry Falwell is a bad person. Personally, I am glad that asshole is dead. |

I never paid much attention to the guy, but I'm curious to know if the hatred he projected was as passionate and visceral as the hatred I'm seeing in this thread.
Now, back to your regularly scheduled pogrom. |
