Here's the deal:
I came here from the states two months before my passport was about to expire and applied for a new passport as soon as I got here three weeks ago. The new passport arrived but has no stamps on it. My question is, when do I have to leave the country? After one month or three or does it matter? Do I have to show my old passport, which is stamped with a one-month? And (and this is the most important question) is it possible to have my visa extended from 1 month to three months without having to leave the country? Of course, if I find a job, none of this matters but things are looking bleak because I don't want to work at a shady hagwon again....
I just am trying to avoid going to immigration if I don't have to. That place sucks, except for the Russian hookers. Am I the only one who wonders if they brought any non-hooker clothes? |

As long as you have your old passport with the 1 month stamp you are fine. |

But I was really wondering if it is possible to extend the typical entry visa (1 month) to a longer visa (3 months) withouth having to leave the country. I could always do a run and change the visa, but I don't want to deal with buying a ticket. |

You can extend your 1 month visa another 30 days.
The 3 month visa is a tourist visa which has to be gotten outside of Korea and costs about $50.00.
I hope this helps. |

Oh, okay. Is that easy to do? I just go to immigration and say I want to extend my visa and that's it? No questions, no penalties? |

They will want to see that you are leaving Korea, so show them a ticket and your visa will be extended to the date on the ticket. |
