If this story is true, it seems very unfair especially towards American senior citizens who very possibly could have fought in the Korean war. |

She and other officials said they are aware of the lack of both central and provincial governments agencies to address justifiable foreign complaints. But at this stage, there is no formal mechanism for the government to deal with such cases, they said. |
That's Korea for ya!! |

The group plans to file a petition to the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Ministry of Information and Communication to eliminate lingering discrimination against legal foreign residents. |
Lingering discrimination? Just lingering? I haven't seen it go anywhere in 3 years....

Legal resident for 40 years paying his taxes....
If he can't gain access to basic benefits like getting a free ticket on the subway or having the ability to be declared disabled by the government and have access to services that he, and other legal residents, paid into for a number of years, what's the point of being a legal resident in this country? |

'Twasn't you I was tweaking ol' bean, I buggered up the quotes.
I do not see how a foreigner being treated like a foreigner is in itself cause for complaint. |

The article stated...
A Seoul City desk for foreigners said that in line with the rise of foreigners living here there are increasing complaints about unfair treatment toward them. She acknowledged that there is no government agency that can give them firsthand assistance in such matters.
``Depending on each case, foreigners are advised to seek help from the relevant department concerned, she added.
The Seoul City help desk once told me to go to a photo studio when I asked for directions to a place that will download my camcorder tape onto a disk.
Thanks for nothing Seoul City help desk! |

Did I read the article right? Did it say that the irony of the situation is that if foreign residents register on a website, they could qualify for the free subway ticket but you need a Korean ID to register on the website so no one could register???
Please tell me I didn't read that right... |
