Well I'm here in Anyang, South Korea. I got in yesterday after more than a day of flying. I could go on about it for hours, but all I have to say is: Air Canada was good, and Asiana airlines SUCK! Seriously, it was like being on a flying city bus, with all the creaking sounds, and the fact that the entire airplane is brown in the inside (see, I'm sure it was white twenty years ago). Not to mention, the whole way there they played "Korea Sparkling!" commercials, hah.
In any case, getting to what the subject of this post is... I love it here so far. Not saying much since I've only been here around twelve hours, but still! I was a tad pessimistic coming in thanks to you, and having seen my apartment (in it now), met my room mate and boss, all the former pessimism is gone. I guess I won't know for sure until I see the school (in an hour and a half), but I'm sure its up to par with everything else I've seen so far and I'm sure it'll be fine.
Anyway, what I'm getting at is... I don't know anyone here. I know my room mate, and he's cool, but I'd like to start networking a bit. Plus, I'd like to go to Seoul with someone this weekend or something else fun. I'm not brave enough to try the subways right away, so I'll only go on them by myself for the first time if my room mate is busy and I can't find anyone else interested.
Let me know, message me if you want on my MSN. |

Welcome to Korea
Dude, you should start a blog, seriously, bottle that wide-eyed enthusiasm before it turns to cynicism.
Don't don't forget to email mum and tell her you're OK.
You're growing up so fast, HFX, I'm so proud of you. |

I've flown Asiana many times from the US to Korea and back again and also to Japan a couple times. They've always been quite decent. Lots of food, nice stewardesses, clean plane. Ever wonder if the grueling 12-hour trip across the Pacific is what made you cranky and not the airline? |

Its weird, I'm in contact with a bunch of people from back home who are over here... and they all love it. The only people I'm aware of that are cynical about being here are... the people on this forum, and I never saw it as outright cynicism in most cases anyway. More like venting.
The first thing I did was buy a phone card and make a bunch of calls home. I'm amazed at how cheap it was.

You know... probably. I was in "agitated zombie mode" by that point. Next time I fly them I'll try to keep an amusement park ride in my mind and enjoy it. |

I'll be in Seoul for the weekend. If you wanna hang out, drop me a PM and I'll give you my cell number.
And as someone who is only in Seoul every other month or so, the subways are simple to use. If you've been on an subway system in the U.S., you will have no problem figuring out Seoul's system. |

I hope you love it, too! I'm moving to Seoul next month! Can't wait!
Good luck today!
p.s. Where is Anyang relative to Seoul? |

I believe the 'boy' is Canadian. We have a subway system there too but only in Ontario. BC has the 'Sky Train.' Down easter's have 'The Underground Railroad.' |

Montreal, too. It's way better than Toronto's. |

"Welcome to the ROK!"
I am from Florida, and I have wondered this since I have been here. Why is it that most Canadians that I have met in my 2 years here have several of their friends from back home living in Korea?
Anyway, I live in Seoul and would be glad to hang out sometime. |

Welcome to Korea! I would go to Seoul, but I can barely walk thanks to some unknown insect that bit my left leg in 3 places around the ankle. Now my foot no longer resembles a foot, but a crazy Wallace and Grommit type blimp.
Definitely start a blog. I've been here 3 months and am still enthusiastic (see I could even make jokes about the Korean mystery bug and a deformed foot!)
Hope you continue to enjoy your time here. |
