Here's a job offer emailed to me:
Subject: A PROPOSAL TO OUR WONDERFUL ESL TEACHER
Dear Esl
My name is Wilson Brown
And I am married to Lilian. We are from
Portugal, working and residing in Nigeria on contract with (NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT).
My wife and Children are not really good when it comes to speaking
English hence we require an ESL Teacher to come and spend One year
with us. You would teach my wife and my two kids how to speak English and
some writing too. Their names are poduski, sandorus, This is very important to me hence I would be
offering to pay you $5,500 (US DOLLARS) every month.
You would have a Private Live-Out or Live-In Accomdation depending on
your preference with Private Bathroom, SittingRoom and Bedroom. Your room
would also be furnished with a TelevisionSet, an Internet Ready
Computer System and a Fixed Landline telephone. If you can drive,We
can make arrengment for that too.
You would take them in English Classes every evening. You would also
have the weekends off .Weekends with us is very fun as we visit fun
spots, go sightseeing and amusement parks. Do not worry about your travel
arrangements as we would assist you in that regards when the time comes.
Please write me on my personal e mail address
I hope to hear from you in earnest.
Esq, Wilson

Several years ago, I heard from an American Embassy official that some U.S. citizens had been lured (by scam emails) to various African countries -especially the Ivory Coast. They've never been heard from again and are presumed dead... |

This has already been discussed...even on teacher cut-and-pasted their email correspondence (the poster was playing the scumbag)...'twas entertaining...
Anyone care to link it...I can not remember which thread it was posted on (not the original post of the thread).

Just curious. Most ESL teachers are not that wealthy...that's why they're over in other countries working.
What would be the rational for such a scam....their passport? |

I am guessing Western Union your airfair money to show good faith and it will be reimbursed upon arrival. And if you pay that it will be your housing deposit. If you are dumb enough to do that then they may ask for your passport for your visa.
The nigerian scams work by starting with something small and reasonable before taking the piss completely and having you hand over cash for whatever thing they can dream up.
You should reply and see what they come up with. Send in a fake resume and photo and take the bait to see what they try to pull |
