Is it possible to open a bank account on a tourist visa? Currently I am working for a hakwon. I heard that immigration will track you down. Please let me know the details. |

You'll need your ARC, or, without it, a passport. Bank staff will quickly see you're not legal and wont give you an account. |

I had an account on a tourist visa---no problem unless things have changed....
Don't yell at me but I was even paid salries direct deposit into it and even wired money here and there---converted cash and whatnot. You can even get a safe deposit box.
(Might help to have a Korean friend to speed things up,_) |

Just need a passport. Maybe a call from a Korean, sounding official, but that's a more extreme measure. Some banks will do it and others won't. |

When I first came here 4 years ago. I had a tourist visa and opend an account. All I had was a passport and a text message in Korean asking to open an account. Dress nice and smile. There are no laws about opening a bank account here, you don't need an e2 or anything like that. |

KEB's pamphlet says that "illegal sojourners" can send money home.
I'm not exactly clear what that means. |
