I'm doing a runner after one day of work at my new job. Does anyone know a moving company that can work on short notice?

I've got lots of stuff from living in Asia for over 5 years.

I came to Korea from Japan with my girlfriend. Our school closed after 6 months, and then we had to get a new job.

Long story:

We got a new job and we moved in on Thursday. The boss left us hanging around at the subway station for over 30 minutes, then she took us to our new place. Small doesn't even cover it. We're sharing a room that is barely big enough for 1 person. There were no furnishings - just a bed which would be arriving soon. She told us we wouldn't be getting anything else as this was a good location so she was paying more rent.

We were taken to the school and showed around then left alone. We sat in the teacher's room and nobody told us what to do or why we had to stay as we weren't supposed to be working anyways. Someone showed us a book and said to read it. My girlfriend sat reading while I was then taken back to the apartment, helped move the bed in, and taken back to the school again. As we had no plates, cups, glasses, cutlery, TV etc, we told her we were going as we had to buy some stuff.

On the Friday we showed up at 9:20am and were told that Orientation was at 11am. All the kids and their parents would be coming to meet us, and oh by the way we had to teach a 30 minute lesson. For the rest of the day we were left alone in the teacher's room to plan next week. Only the books had to be photocopied for all the kids, and we had to teach 14 different lesson types. The preparation was all on us - hours and hours of trying to figure out teaching Math, Science, Grammar, Phonics, Computers, Cooking, Arts and Crafts, Music, Gym, Creative Arts, Character Education, Sharing Time etc. They all come with a kind of manual, but we have to make all the stuff for the kids, get it ready, order the materials, write weekly progress reports, write in notebooks every Friday for each parent etc etc etc. It took us 6 hours to prepare one week, and we didn't even finish copying everything we needed.

The boss was rude, abrasive and commanding. We didn't get any help (only one person tried) and it was a horrible experience.

Summary:

We have over 5 years teaching experience each, so we know how to plan and prepare. But this place was a disaster. Apparently this director has a history of shady dealings according to several friends and former Korean co-workers. Unfortunately we found out too late.

Good lord, it looks like your boss actually wants you to teach! and you with only 5 years experience. Yeah i'd say a doing a runner sounds like the right move for you for sure. don't worry, i'm sure if you look a little harder a glorified babysitting position will come up somewhere along the line.

5 years,zero experience...really makes little or no difference to the average hagwon.

I presume she told you all about the school already?Some of the subjects are pretty abstract."Character Education" is most likely to be interpreted by Korean kids as "Let's go Mental"

The thing that sticks out though is no mention of a visa or alteration of workplace.Which,presumably,is why you're going(or believe you're free to after one day?If you've got it though,you're stuck with it unless she releases you.

As for the director being cheap and abrasive,with an E2 they own you for the year.You don't own your own visa here.
