Just a note of thanks to all the people who put this on for all the lazy asses like me who dropped by to glean ideas. Especial thanks to Jinks for his great lesson idea. I think that giving 15 teachers a great idea for a lesson they can do once in a blue moon is really a lot more useful than a big pep talk on global education. The woman from Oxford books was quite interesting, too. If you read this board thanks for making me feel that I must be on the right track in my writing class.
...But, if it's going to be on a Saturday, could be on an alternate Saturday when school's not on. I, like most public school teachers, was teaching this morning and unable to attend the first half. Thanks. |

Thanks for the props YBS, glad you enjoyed my presentation. I got lots out from participants' feedback, suggestions and ideas, so it has been win-win. I don't know if the conference organisers at Kyungpook National University and KOTESOL deliberately chose a Saturday date with public school teachers in mind, but perhaps those English teachers (mainly Koreans) who have to work on Saturdays could have used their KOTESOL ticket as a free pass out of Satrday morning classes. |

Are you in the Daegu/Gyeongbuk area? The conference YuBumSuk is talking about was a joint effort between the Daegu and Busan KOTESOL Chapters with significant support from Kyungpook National University. |

That would explain why. I am part of the Ganwondo Chapter. Thanks for the clarification. |

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, though it didn't get my co-worker and me out of ours. |

I teach my CA class every second Saturday, just like most Korean public school teachers do. |

What kinds of things do you teach in that class? I do that now for a bunch of mixed ability middle schoolers from a variety of schools. |

It's a drama club. We do every thing from charades and learning to communicate with our bodies, to short skits and monologues to a scene from a musical. To be honest the students really suck at drama, but it's generally very fun and three of them have a smidgen of talent and should pull things through for a short production at the end of the year.

CA means Club Activity and all public schools (middle & high, at least) have a variety of such classes the students take on a semi-elective basis. |
