My current school director has told me that the "National Health Insurance" Plan will cost me roughly 9% of my salary rather than the 1.5% which is stipulated in my contract. He said that because I earn 2,200,000 Won per month this bumps me up into a higher bracket, so the health plan costs more.... This sounds super sketchy to me. My last 2 schools only deducted around 35,000Won per month for health insurance and I was given a card.

This does not include Pension in case you're wondering, he says it will only cover half of the health insurance. Does anyone know the deal on this. Is he just making this up to avoid paying out because i won't agree to pay this much per month?
Any advice appreciated.

It was unclear in the origional post, but my director states that health insurance will cost 9% of my salary, of which I will contribute 4.5% and he will contribute the other half.

Herein lies the answer. Your school has neglected to tell you that they have to pay half that. i.e. 4.5%. 35,000-40,000 per month is normal to pay as your 4.5%

if they don't agree to that then they are fisting you.

If my school contributes half of 9% of my 2.2 salary that equals 99,000 won per month and I'd also pay 99,000 Won per month ( 4.5%) which is way more than I had paid with previous jobs paying the same salary.

The taxation office seems to have nothing to do with this. I think my director has only said the cost will be so high on BOTH our parts knowing I won't agree to pay so much per month. Anyways, I'll ask the EFL LAW people and see if they have any more info.... USteach
