despite my best intentions, i always seem to get home at 9, slob out for a couple of hours, then get to this time and wish I had bothered doing something, this happened last year as well, it is harder to do stuff in korea than england, but i still feel ashamed that i don't ever bother to do anything, not even go to the pub, plenty of foriegners live in my neighbourhood, but I rarely see them on the streets in the evening

is this just me?

I said "one night a week." I get up so early (by 6) that I don't want to go out and get sauced every night. Then the weekend comes and I might go for a walk friday night and go into Seoul on Saturday. I'm thinking about going to Daegu this weekend to break the monotony. I am here to save money, after all, and going out every night will eat into your budget.

But then, I'm getting older and find I have less of a need to go out...would be nice to find a cool lady friend though.

Where I live there's nothing to do at all, ever. Maybe going to the library or occasionally to a bar with a rare local willing to practice their english..
I might watch a movie, or read a book. Cook dinner.
My mornings are the same, except I cook lunch.

I think if I lived in Seoul I'd be able to go and do some reading or something, somewhere. Go to the gym, art gallery or theatre. My favorite past-time is talking about philosophy or politics which those knowledgeable in the subjects. I make do with getting wasted in a bar, when I go to a city. My other favorite is finding places to read and reading. Although it's quite easy to find good books, finding a good spot to read can be really difficult.

What's there to do in Seoul? I've found some parts to be really cool just to wander around in, especially during a weekend. It can be fun to try a random subway stop or get on a random bus. We don't even have busses here..

Life should not be wasted like this!

Like the previous post, there is nothing to do as it's all as Korean as it possibly gets where it's no fun after you've gone through the honey moon phase. I have no interest in pachongmacha soju tents, bars, or much of anything else here. Yea, I pretty much stay home every night and don't go out much, but I drink vodka or gin with juice at home 3 nights a week. I download movies and music to enjoy on my computer at home, but must keep the volumn so low I can't hardly hear it on account of my annoying neighbors who are against me and my English speaking. C

Cultural events, concerts, a gym I felt comfortable using, kool people to socialize with, and kool places to go would be terrific to have access to. I am very bored here and look forward to leaving. Feels like living in a stagnant gold fish bowl to put it in analogy.

i'm glad i'm not alone

i have my interests i brought with me, making music and running my internet empire

but like sojourner, i don't really think that much of korean culture, and i don't even feel like it's cos i'm missing out on some amazing underground culture cos I remember when i was a teenager at home and i wasa too poor and young to be involved in the cool stuff that was going on, i was still aware of it, you very rarely see any cool koreans or cool korean bars. I'm probably gonna go to Japan after I've finished saving and stuff, cos even on my 4 weekend visits there i saw more cool subcultures than in all of my 2 years in korea

my girlfriend goes to the gym and kumdo classes to fill her evenings, which i always mean to do, but i don't get home till quarter to 9 usually, and then i'll sit and chill for a bit, and all of a sudden it's after 10 and all the classes are closed
