Hi everyone I will be coming over to work in korea towards the end of August. I had a question to ask regarding summer camps. If I go do a summer camp before my contract starts with a different company, what kind of work visa do I need if any to work for a month at a summer camp..does employment for a month at one of those camps require any kind of special visa? Then my second question was regarding the school and city of my prospective contract. I just wanted to find out if anyone had any information or experience to relay concerning the town and school where my job would be located. The details are as follows: Song-il Elementary school in Pyeongtaek city. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!! |

Your short term camp would require a C4 (short term)work visa.
Then you will have to do a visa run to obtain your E2 for your public school.
You do realize that if you work the camp first, you will be considered an "in Korea" job hire for your public school and they will pay for your visa run but NOT your flight to Korea. They do NOT pay for your flight here AND a visa run.
Camps do not pay for fiights, or if they do, they will screw you royally on the salary.
Be very careful with your contracts and READ the specifics about flights and visa run expenses.

After you finish the camp you will have to do a visa run to change from your C4 temp work visa to the E2 work visa. If you enter on your E2 you cannot legally work at the camp.
In simple terms:
If you have your E2 visa in your passport before you come to Korea you will enter korea on your E2. You will NOT be allowed to legally work for the camp. The camp requires either a C4 short term work visa or an F series visa (which you don't/won't have).
Short and simple:
You need 2 separate visas and a trip OUT OF THE COUNTRY in between them to be legal. Immigration will not let you do otherwise in a circumstance like you have described. |
