Well, we're well into the summer season, but I am not finding much delicious fruit. My local Lotte Supermarket has a grande selection of 4 fruits, bananas, yellow melons, watermelons and some apples leftover from the winter season.

So, where's the fruit? Very Happy

At the outdoor veggie, fruit and seafood markets of course!

This town may not have much but it has a ton of fresh fruit and vegetables. A benefit of being in farming country perhaps.

Go to a businessman's club or a whisky cafe. The fruit tray will probably run you 50,000, but you will also get a Korean woman to rub your leg and giggle while you eat. She will also help you drink any beverages you buy.

I hear you, Dev.

Fresh, tasty fruit (which doesn't cost an arm and a leg) is hard to find, IMO. I've resorted to frozen fruit to make up for it somewhat, but it's not the same.

I'm thinking it could be a trade issue. There are so many countries in Asia wih wonderful fruit, but it rarely seems to come to Korea.

On the other hand, maybe it's a health issue. Maybe the health ministry doesn't trust foreign fruit. look what happened recently with U.S. beef.

It's probably a combination of the two. Fear and protectionism. Whatever it is, I hate it. It has me dreaming of a short trip to Thailand...

Yeah, the fruit isn't so special here. Most of it is kind of bland. American oranges aren't bad sometimes.

Disappointed? Thought you were going to get some info about where to find something else?

Are you a Maple Leafs fan?

Yeah, it's because of the high trade tariffs imposed on agricultural products. Koreans think this is a national security issues and that they should also support the local farmers, instead of buying better and cheaper food abroad.

- Korean environment is not very optimal for growing fruits
- Korean farming is not very advanced as the farms are small and they don't have money to automatize production.
- The food security is a moot point as the meat produced here requires imports from abroad anyway.
- There was a research that if Korea imported most of food, the economy here would benefit so much they actually had money to pay losses to farmers and still have 3x profit over the current situation.

I personally think that development shouldn't be a hostage of a small interest group(=local farmers).. sigh.
