As I stated in this thread: http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=90654&sid=060266b2c792be46280514801a129940

I thought the program to objective and interesting and as King Baeksu said, ex-pats role in the EFL industry didn't even seem to be mentioned so....

I apologize King Baeksu.

The program was indeed interesting but not that surprising. Some of the interesting points mentioned were students spending upwards of 300,000 won on English language materials a month or 880,000 a month for a English-Only kindergarten.
Even English/Taekwondo schools called something like "Taekelishi".

But this "English Craze" seems to be mainly seen in Seoul. But even Seoul isn't isolated in it's "craze". As I was a teacher in Taiwan where bilingual schools were popping up everywhere (I taught in several) and English was(still is?) becoming the de facto second language. Edit: Should say third language; Chinese, Taiwanese, English.

Personally, I enjoy my profession and am proud of my students, but there is one rule or creed I sincerely believe in: Teach my language and culture, but don't REPLACE it with their own. Regrettably, I see that happening in Korea as I saw it happening in Taiwan. Even the number of Korean/English signs on stores and businesses is disheartening to me. Now I'm even starting to see English as the only language used on signs and even on the sides of daycare buses. It's sad to see...

Anyways, I've said my peace and hope peace is maintained. I still believe you should guard your comments here in Korea and in the media. I believe most television media everywhere are sensationalist and will say anything to gain that extra viewer. I'm pleased to see SBS didn't stoop to that level.

By the way, I've had Korea Bug collecting dust for the better part of a year on a shelf behind me. Just haven't gotten around to reading it. I'll give it a go this week.

this time.

of course, if I wanted to be paranoid, I'd mention how that little snippet is still on tape somewhere, and just might pop up in the future. Did you give them permission to use that interview in future programs?
