The weather has been nice lately and was wondering if people have found any nice patios/beer gardens around Seoul where you can sit outside and enjoy the sun and a few/several pints???
Cheers.... |

Outside of many Familymarts and 7-11 type stores are tables and chairs set up for this.
They say it's "cultural rude," but I enjoy a cold one on the Cheonggyechon now and then. It's rude next to the stream but not outside a Familymart on the sidewalk? I digress. |

I've never heard it's rude and I see Koreans doing it all the time. Granted, more so in poorer parts of town.

I see that I misread. Well it's never wrong on the Hangang.

I thought beer garder was Konglish. We're talking about drinking outside, right? The Hangang river is certainly good. The roof of Nashvilles (right out itaewon exit 3, I believe) is good too. |

Watts On Tap in Shinchon is pretty good. They have a nice patio up on the roof with free darts. Lots of different beer on tap, nothing more than 5000 per pint, even Hoegaarden.
Directions...If you come out of Shinchon station, take exit 3 and walk towards Yonsei. Take a left at the intersection and walk around the GS25 [taking a right]. Walk straight down that alley, [you'll see chicken restaurants on your right], and before you come to another GS25 [I think], there will be a building on your left [it's a little difficult to see the Watts... sign on the building] and the entrance should have an sign for 'six bar'. Up to the third floor and the bar is there with the patio one more flight of stairs up. |

I was referring to the Cheonggyechon, but what I read in Groove magazine a few months ago is that drinking in public/on the street is considered rude. |

My row of buildings has tables set up the whole way down where people drink outside. Our local spot is outside the 7-11. In Seoul we usually meet up at Gecko's Garden, but that's a lot more expensive. Great ambiance though, with all the plants downstairs on the patio. |

There are a bunch of bars with actual patios near COEX, right by the Casino. |

I can imagine that it may be considered rude if one is chugging from a bottle of soju on a saturday afternoon in Myeong-Dong on Jongro (although the adjosshi's still don't give a fcuk and do it anyway), but for someone not living in Seoul, in a small town, drinking on the street is surely as natural as breathing. In said small towns, the only other options are to stay at home or go to a wanky hof where you're forced to buy food that you don't want. |

The lack of patios became apparent to me when summer rolled around. A lot of local places have tables and chairs outside, but not that summer patio atmosphere I was looking for.
There are some very nice patios in Hongdae, even one with a small pool in the middle where you can jump in or dip your feet in to cool down. There's a posh garden patio if you go down the lane from Fan Bar. |
