No doubt you've been following the smear campaign against foreigners in Daejeon. We can only hope it doesn't spread to other cities in Korea. "Wow, those hagwon owners in Daejeon really got their whiteys to knuckle under."

I think an excellent avenue of attack is if prospective job seekers just gave their recruiter a brief, polite note that they really are not comfortable with the situation down in Deajeon and they would not at all consider any kind of job there.

If this becomes a boiler plate with job seekers, recruiters will quickly realize there are no bodies to be sent Daejeon way. There is no profit in returning the call of a school in Daejeon looking for a body or running an ad for such a job. The schools in Daejeon will rapidly get the message, I think.

LOL! If Koreans here knew what kind of jobs other koreans have where I am from.............

This place is a breeding ground for contempt. No wonder Korea has basically zero respect in the ESL world....................

I think an even better thing to tell your recruiter is that you don't want to work in hakwons.

Excellent idea. I highly recommend that people avoid Daejeon hogwans. Let them know that we're not in the slightest impressed by their campaign. Pass the word on. Don't accept jobs in Daejeon and watch them sweat.

It will never work. There will always be some desperate sod who will work there. It's a nice idea but unrealistic.

Then Daejeon will get all the "desperate sods" and hopefully all those idiot hagwon owners will go under.

This is karmaic Han for the Daejeon Hogwaon that took my contract and gave it to a Hogwan in Nonsan just as I was about to arrive back in 1997. Man, I could have hung out more with "Big Bill" and the infameous Samsung FLP more often. Good thing I go out of Nonsan quickly!!

Yes, let's boycot Daejon... except for Jimmy Lee and the Palomino hof, that is. Cool

There are still dolts who sign on with crapppy hagwon, in spite of the virtual libraries of information out there, and there are still people who go to sh*tty parts of the country, despite everything that's been written about those regions . . . clearly, a lot of people don't do their homework. Lots of people don't even bother reading this site, or Korea blogs, or any other Korea-related website, so there will always be suckers for Daejeon. But, for my part, I'll try to get information out there as best I can . . . post it on a few different message boards, make sure it gets noticed on blogs, etc.

There will always be people going to a place like Daejeon (and willing to work for 1.8, I'm sure), but it's important to do something, even if it is just from behind a keyboard.

Also.....its not like all schools and hakwons in Daejon are like the ones that posted those moronic signs...so "avoid Daejon" seems a bit like killing a cricket with a sledge hammer.......

Why don't we all call the phone numbers for the Daejeon Hogwan's Association and provide false tips for them to chase?

Calls from payphones would be wise.

You guys who don't live in Daejeon have no idea what you are talking about!

Boycott Daejeon? Let's just boycott Korea! There are two hagwon associations in Daejeon FYI and the bigger one hates the one that posted the racist banners.

Just hangout in Daejeon for a weekend and you will get the drift here.
Life is good here for most teachers in the hagwons.

The cost of living is much cheaper than Seoul. The air is cleaner. The people of Chungnam are the friendliest in Korea. There is a new International Community Center here with Korean classes that cost 10,000 won for three months. The new subway has just opened. I could go on and on.

I wouldn't want to work anywhere else!
