Hi there

Just wondering if there is a way to stop accessing webpages. I have very little will power and am wasting a lot of time at certain sites eg. Is there a way just to block everything that starts with www.blahblahblah... or http://blahblahblah

the browser i normally use is opera (try it, it is great, love the new speed dial), however i also use firefox and if i have to and for those last 0.1% of sites i use explorer.

thank you

cheers demophobe Rolling Eyes I really should, but I need it for other things.

I did manage to find a way myself by adding sites into the hosts file

Everyone wants the quick easy way out solution.

Grow up, learn some self-control and live your damn life. If that fails, see a psychologist.

I agree, but it's easier said than done. You might find it helpful to reflect on why you are doing what you are doing. You might find that it's really a symptom of a problem than merely problem in itself. Nothing in your life is isolated from anything else. Understand why and try to remedy the causes not simply cut off the symptoms.

That way you are likely to find a more lasting solution. Self-discipline is more effective when you understand where, how and why it is best applied.

the only reason i asked is is to stop the casual browsing. You know when you are bored as hell and (esp with opera's new speed dial) it is so easy just to waste 10-20 min. If i have to spend 5 min getting around my block, then i will not do it. I am at the stage in my masters where i have to do a lot of data entry and distractions while pleasant are not needed

the best analogy (that i can think of) would be a fat person not keeping a bag of chips next to him, sure he could walk down the road to the shops and buy some, but not having them in the house reduces the temptation.

so if you can think of an easier way than using the hosts file, tell me. other wise not really interested

P.S. Demophobe normally you are quite helpful and i respected your advice. what happened?

How can I say what happened to you? Wink

Sorry, but If one cannot stop themselves from using the net, it's an addiction that needs help. Canceling the service is a good idea, but the OP is an addict and will never do that. For a month, they need to do this. Strong medicine, but it will certainly help the problem.

Am I the only one who finds someone trying to lock themselves out of their own computer with passwords and protections that they themselves create comical?! Crikey...just stop. Take responsibility and knock it off.
