Hello!

I'm looking at buying a Wii for my husband as a gift, but I don't really know anything about them, so I was hoping you guys could help me out. First is there anyway to get an American version here (I guess modded is the way to go, too, right?) It looks like they're around or under 400,000 for a modded Japanese one at Yongsan?? Looking at some American websites, it looks like they're about $600 for an unmodded American one. Is that really right? Are only Japanese ones available in Korea now or will the American ones be coming soon if they're not here yet? Any other things I need to know before buying them? Basically to really play it one would want the basic package (machine plus one controller), an extra controller and a couple games, anything else??

Any advice is much appreciated! Thanks a lot!

There's no way they're going for $600. That's way too much. You can buy one at any American retail store for $250. In a few months they may even go for less than that.

My bad!

I guess those were some package sets--I thought it just included the basic set, but I guess it included a bunch of extras. So, anyone have any info on if/how/how much for an American one in Korea?

Thanks!

I picked up a modded Japanese version in Yongson a couple of weekends ago for 310k, a copy of the little game that comes with an extra controller for 50k, and an extra nunchuck for 25k. Then you can get copied games for 10k if you want.

I don't think anyone will have a US version, but they will have some of the games in English (and the mod chip makes the region free). The Japanese menus are kind of a pain, but I had no problems getting the games to play. Anything else is a bit sketchy though. Games in Japanese can be anywhere from no problem at all to almost impossible.

Can anyone tell me what would happen if I bought a Wii from the states?

Would I have to connect to the U.S server to play over the net and would that slow me down too much (on a hello cable set up)?

Could I get my Wii modded here and play the local games?

Cheers

Ya, super easy, but if you can just pick any game you want and can get a completed download in a day or two, then you have FAR better luck than I. If there's something that you actually want to play, waiting for days or weeks for something that may never finish and may not even work once you do seems like far more trouble to me than $10 is worth though.

I'm liking Mario Super Strikers at the moment. Once I get sick of it, I'll probably go back to Paper Mario.
