how do you purchase the Discovery Air Pass? I'm flying to Bangkok then on to Luang Prabang, then onward to someplace else (I'd love suggestions or recommendations!)...my vacation is about 3 weeks. |

Bangkok Airways office is near City Hall, you can buy the passes there though they only take cash
you got some good choices, Siem Reap, Pnom Penh, Yangon, Samui, Vientiane (on Lao Airlines).
The airpass is perhaps one of the better bargains in Asia as the Air Asia flights though cheaper can be a bigger hassle with flight times, cancelations etc |

I'm heading to Bangkok at the end of June and from there i intend to visit Laos and Myanmar. Could you give some details on The Discovery Air Pass? I haven't heard of it.
How much is it? How many stops can you make with it? Which airline is it with? Where can I purchase it(City Hall, but which city and country)? Can it be purchased on line?
Thank you. |

From Bangkok Airways website:
Discovery Airpass will allow you to take advantage of our expanded network which is operated by Bangkok Airways, Siem Reap Airways International, and our Lao Airlines. For the first time ever, visitors can fly economically cheaply and conveniently around the region.
It is actually a system of coupons that allows you to fly between Bangkok Airways many domestic destinations within Thailand, as well as Siem Reap Airways domestic routes in Cambodia, and Lao Airlines domestic routes in Laos. Coupons for domestic flights cost USD55 per adult (Children aged 2-11 = USD28; Infants under 2 = USD6)**.
The international routes serviced by the participating airlines are also covered. Coupon for most international flight cost USD 90 (Children aged 2-11 = USD68; Infants under 2 = USD9). Certain long distance international flight cost USD150 (Children aged 2-11 = USD113; Infants under 2 = USD15)**.
To begin, purchase a minimum of three coupons (or a maximum of six), leaving the dates of all but the first flight of your journey open. Next decide how long you want to stay at each destination and book the next flight of your journey when you are ready to move on.
Certain restrictions apply: Seats are limited, some flights do not offer seats at all. All quoted prices exclude taxes, airport departure fees and other charges. A ticket is valid for a maximum of 2 months after departure of the first flight. Individual routes may not be traveled more than once in each direction and only one stopover is allowed per city. Coupons are non transferable, but rerouting is permitted at a charge of USD 20 per transaction, plus any fare difference.
Currently, it is not possible to purchase the Airpass through our web site, please contact your travel agent or our representative offices for more details. |

Bangkok Airways flies into Luang Prabang but not into Vientiane. I think Laos Airlines flies from Bangkok to Vientiane. |

I don't think they fly to Myanmar but I'm not positive. Here's a link to a site that gives you info about other types of passes.

on Bangkok Airways you would have do an overnight going from LP to Yangon. Bangkok Airways flight is at noon and the LP flight gets in at like 3:30P
Lao Airlines does fly from BKK to Vientiene, I've used the Disc Airpass on that leg, then also on Lao Airlines from Vientiene to LP. Right now the US Embassay there is not recomending going overland from Vientiene to LP due to some stuff north of Van Vieng.
If you dont do the Discovery Airpass then Thai is cheaper r/t to Yangon if you dont want to get up with the birds for the 7AM flight on Air Asia |

hogwonguy, I'm glad you mentioned the embassy report. I just read it and wouldn't have even thought to check it prior to my vacation. I was debating whether to fly from Vientiane to Luang Prabang or take the very long bus ride to see to the country. Now I know to check the embassy recommendations before I leave. Thanks! |
