In the past month I have received 487 private messages. Some are insults, some are flattering, and some are just ridiculous. They range from asking me for my phone number -- to asking me how much money I earned last year -- to asking me if my Avatar is really me to asking me if I think Lorne Green was a better actor than Graham Greene. Also, one poster wants to know my favorite fabric; another my favorite drink.

For the record:

Phone: (???) 867-5309

Earnings as of Dec. 31, 2006: unavailable due to international currency fluctuations.

Better Actor: Graham Greene

Favorite Fabric: sorry to disappoint.... Cotton!

Favorite Drink: water

This sounds like something you'll have to prove. So in case you don't know how...

Do a screen capture of your PM inbox: Hit the keys "alt" and "print screen" at the same time.

Open up MSPaint and hit "Ctrl" and "V" at the same time.

Save the image, host it somewhere. Post it in this thread.

Shocked

I personally think PMs are a useful function for communicating with other members without the scrutiny of the entire board. I've used them especially on the buy/sell/trade forum and for further inquiry about specific topics that dealt with personal issues.

But 487 PMs in a month! Shocked That's like 200% more than I send or receive in any given month. Are you being harassed by any particular users, or are they from many different users? Perhaps posting them for all to see would be a good way to end it, then again maybe not.

phpBB should have an option to disable PMs as per the request of individual users, but IMHO to disable them for all users wouldn't benefit this board.

You can always just hit the delete all checkbox and ignore everything in your inbox.

Nobody says you have to read them or even open them.

Just scan the usernames and ignore any you are not expecting.

Change your avatar to a set of dirty, hairy, ugly legs and the problem should disappear.
