|
|
Well, I've decided to just take a chance and fly over to Korea and then look for work. Besides, I don't expect many recruiters to really be interested in me (as I'm Sif African).
Now, using my South African passport I can stay in Korea for 30 days. If I use my Swiss passport, however, I can stay for 60 days, which would probably be better, depending on how long it will take me to find work.
So my question is this: Can I fly into Korea using my Swiss passport, find a school, then use my S. African passport for the visa run?
I ask this because from where I'm standing, well, sitting actually, this seems to be the most sensible option.
Thanks in advance for all replies. |

I believe so, just make sure that you give the correct passport for paperwork purposes when applying for positions.
I would also check into whether immigration will accept people for an E2 visa with a passport from south africa. |

Thanks! Well, I hope that I can get the coveted E-2!
You see, S. Africa is a strange place. Only 40% of the 'white' population are native English-speakers. Now, everyone can speak English, but usually not too well. When I was in Taiwan I found out that there's a huge scam going on involving S. Africans and agents. What happens is as follows:
- Agent organizes trip to Taiwan for S. African teacher
- Teacher has no degree, yet a degree mysteriously 'shows' up
- Teacher is actually Afrikaans, and not being properly educated speaks poor English
- Teacher will work for a lot less, in order to compete with Canadians and Americans, and also because teacher is desperate for money
- Teacher has problems with agent; ends up running away
- Schools don't trust S. Africans
- Schools retaliate and pay less
...ad infinitum...
Anyway, if anyone who posts here knows if South Africans are eligible for the E-2, please let me know. I'm pretty sure though, as the Korean Consulate in S. Africa told me that they will notarize copies of my degree. |

i'm from south africa, but i travelled on my british passport. in fact, i don;t have a friggin south african passport. but anyway, a friend of mine is south african citizen and she must've got an E-2 on her south african passport, so it shouldn't be a problem. good luck!
edit: i used a recruiter...GMSC recruiting firm in Canada. they told me south africans are at the bottom of the list, but they got back to me in about 3 weeks with a job..and i'm happy the school..let the employer hear you speak as well...my employer said my accent sounded american..go figure...must've been the durban "yeah" as opposed to "ja" that did it. |
