Hey, I live in Bucheon which is on the outskirts of Seoul. There is a team here looking for a couple extra guys. Mostly Koreans on the team but there are a few Canadians, including myself. If you are interested let me know.

don't be shy come out. I've only been here for 2 weeks, and I saw a posting on a board in a bar. I only have my rollerblades here, no gear, but apparently gear is pretty cheap, so they are gonna take me to find some! If you like close enough do it! I live right near songnae station so I could take cabs with you to the rink!

If roller hockey gear is on par with ice hockey gear, it is the opposite of cheap. Look at paying twice to three times as much for everything here than you would in North America.

Suppose that depends on how hardcore these guys are. Is it full pads? If so, yeah, that'll get expensive, but if you're just playing a light-contact game (gloves, stick, skates, maybe helmet), it shouldn't be too bad.

I don't understand how that makes a $60 stick any cheaper.

Well, the money we're making here, coupled with the fact that hockey's a super expensive sport anyway just makes the money not seem too bad.

Can you carry a hockey stick on a plane, or would it have to fit in luggage? If there really are a bunch of people playing hockey in and around Seoul, I might pick up some hockey skates when I'm in Amurica next month...

Hey a $5 glass of coke is still expensive even though it really isn't that much money.

Anyways, you can bring sticks on the planes. I brought mine over on Cathay Pacific no problem, they even gave me a box to put them in.

Hey I went out last night, a couple of the guys are decent. I played Jr.B in southwestern ontario so I am a pretty good player, and half of the guys could keep up. The rink is a pretty nice roller hockey rink. It is on the roof of an E-Mart in Bucheon. I have only been in Korea 2 weeks, but I live right near Songnae station, which is about 45 subway ride from central seoul. There is one other canadian who wants to come out and the rest of the guys are korean. They are looking to play at 8pm wednsday nights, and maybe another night during the week. They wear shin gaurds, gloves, rollerhockey under pants, and the long over pants, plus a helment (optional) they said I could get everything for 300 US. However, I'll probably scrap the underpants and helment, I think they are just over protective. The guy who owns the rink is gonna give me directions to a place where I can buy equipment, but if you know of any places let me know. And if you are interested in coming out let me know, worse case scenario you can come out, try it and if you don't like it not come back! Anyways message me if you want any more info

So what you're saying is, showing up will get my ass schooled by a bunch of people who actually know how to play real hockey? Surprised

That's not too bad, especially if a helmet comes with the deal.

My sentiments exactly. The extent of my roller hockey playing was in a tennis court back home with a few guys from high school. I just started roller blading again after a 7 hear hiatus. Right now, I'm trying got learn how to skate backwards with ease.

Give me like 3-4 months to polish up on my skating skills and practice my slap shot and I'll be good to go.

I played for the Strathroy Rockets of the Western Jr.B league. I played from 2000-2002 before going to uni.

Ok, this league has a wide range of ability. I was by the best player out there and I was using a stick that was 6 inches too short for me. There were 2 other guys that were decent, then next best guy was the owner of the rink and he has played for 10 years, and then there is another guy that can skate alright and make and receive a pass. That was enough to keep me occupied and filling my need for hockey, a guy that I can make plays with.
However the rest of the guys were beginners to intermediates at best. Most can't skate backwards, and some can't really even shoot, but they skate hard and try! This is just a fun league, so if you are beginner to intermediate come out, and it will be a good environment to learn. If you are advanced there are enough decent guys to make it fun and to get in a good skate.
Let me know if your interested!
Cheers

Wow... can't skate backwards? Maybe I'll be okay, then... What do you guys use, a roller-puck or one of the orange balls?
