Why are all bands in Korea one of 2 varieties....Hippie or punk???? No hardcore metal, death metal...no prog rock...nothing of the sort....Just a bunch of hippies or punks. Seems kinda gay to me. |

Actually I played Ys for the SNes when I was younger..(a rare game now if you can get your hands on it) I always have Y's Ark of Napishtim now for the PS2 but thats my only experience with the Y's series. Most of the games were released in Japan. I might download the ROMs at some point.
What's your take on the Seiken Densetsu/Mana series? |

He's asking about foreigner bands, not Korean bands. There are a ton of Korean metal bands, black metal, metalcore, and so on, but only if you can stand Koreans. |

you know, it's kinda true.
i wouldn't mind playing some improv prog rock... or some odd-time-signature don caballero/battles craziness (any takers pm me)...
we also have a half-covers, half-originals, mostly indie rock outfit. just for kixx.
last show we played random stuff like band of horses, interpol, sloan, etc. need a new bassist, though (takers?...)
sorry to hijack somewhat. |

Every now and again there is a music festival in front of the PNU gates in Busan.
They play thrash metal, but they stand around in their khakis and rugby shirts; just staaaand around.
I would have LOVED to get our bluegrass band up their for a laugh, sadly, I didn't hear bout it til it was too late. |

Interpol? I'm impressed. They have a great post-punk sound going on. |

Well, because those are 2 of the easiest styles of music for players who are just mostly goofing around.
The musicians in Korea are not professionals- just do it for fun, just having some drinks and laughs.
Punk and laid back hippy jams are the easiest to pull off without a whole lot of effort.
Other styles require much more practice and effort.
Most of the foreigner bands I've seen here have been the low end of the spectrum hippy jams and blues noodlers. It's boring, but easy.
In Busan, there's quite a good scene with some killer bands. There's an awesome bluegrass band- great, I tell you! There's some reggae and funk.
For absolute killer punk, there's this band, F+. They are amazing!
This is not kiddy punk. They rock! |
