Warning: Potentially TMI ahead!!

How can I ask for yeast infection meds in Korean at the pharmacy? Sadly, my meager Korean does not cover "Hand over the Monistat."

Muchos gracias.

In my experience, you'll need to see a doctor for the suppository. My doc gave me a 3-day treatment which worked just fine.

At the pharmacy, though, you can get "Canesten", which is a topical cream to relieve discomfort. I'm pretty sure you can get this without a prescription.

Good luck! It's the season for it..

Write "candida" on a piece of paper, and go to a maternity hospital. I told the doctor I wanted diflucan and not some suppository and got it. No examination.

Good luck. That is the worst!

If you, or anyone for that matter, needs to see a OBN&GYN I have a student (who speaks excellent English). She treats foreigners regularly and is happy to take new patients. I'm pretty sure she's an awesome doctor (given her resume and where she works). Anyways, send me a PM and I can give you her contact information. Her office is in Bundang, very close to Seohyun station.

Okay this worked for me, so if you're not shy about using "sharades" in the pharmacy, you'll get what you need.

I usually use Monistat at home, but Monistat and Canesten are the two top brands that people use in Canada. You CAN get Canesten here.

Go to the pharmacy and ask for Canesten. They will give you a cream. The cream is good for external itching, but it won't get up in there to fight the infection. Here's what I had to do... the word for vagina (as told by a female Korean friend) is pronounced kinda like "Jill". So I took the cream, then I said uhhhh Canesten..... jill.... and used my finger and made an upwards gesture. She kinda went "ahhhh ok ok" and handed me the suppository kind with an applicator. So you can get both. Hope you're not too embarassed to sign for it, but it does work! Smile

Oh! There's also a home remedy that you can use if you aren't too squeamish, and if things haven't gotten too serious.

Freeze yogurt. Insert. Use as much as you can, um, fit. Try to use a brand that lists the bacteria on the side. All that good bacteria will kill all the bad bacteria that's giving you trouble.

Again, not for the squeamish. It tends to get a bit messy too, so I recommend doing it just before sleep.

Yeah, things sometimes get kind of eww, Dude. Lots of eww things about a dude's body too, though. Wink

Edited once for shameful grammar.

Dude from Canada - the thread title did say a question for the "ladies". If you can't handle it, don't read on. Smile

Sorry to say, but this is a totally normal thing for a gal, so you can either read it and get an education, or read another thread haha.

In my experience you need a doctor appt for the pills, but not for the supository. But from the other responses it seems to depend on which pharmacy you go to. But yea... "Candida" is a word they will know.
