Hi all,
Soon I will be finishing up my first year in Korea, currently in Ulsan. I plan on spending one more year here to save money so I can do my masters degree. To be honest I have gotten used to the Hagwon thing. I would even consider staying on for another year at my current Hagwon BUT, my boss won't (wouldn't likely) raise my salary or give me any other benefits (I haven't talked to him but I know how he is). I will ask him anyway...
However it seems that I can do better than what I have now:
2 million won minus everything= 1,853,000 a month.
I have a B.A., a CELTA and three years EFL experience in Europe, including a university and the year Hagwon here. I am almost certain that I can get a better job than this with more money. I would consider staying on here just because it is convenient but if I can start with 2.2 or 2.3 with a week or two of real vacation time that would be much better.
As for location I would like to stay in Ulsan or maybe go to Busan.
I don't care about social life, night time activites. I just want to save money, have access to a good gym with goof freewights and cardio, make and save money and minimal stress, workload at work...yeah that's all.
Apart from Daves are there any other sites where I could look this early for something for the very end of August or the very beginning of September? Also does anyone have general tips and/or specific ones that would fit my objectives?
Cheers all,
best M.R. |

Contact the office of education in your city or get someone to help you make your resume bilingual and drop it off at the local public schools (level of your choice (HS / MS / ES).
You should be able to get 2.2 + full benefits AND an extra 400k per month for supplimental afternoon classes. If you have documentation to prove your ESL work experience you may get started at 2.4 mil.
All that and still be off by 5 and spend your evenings in the gym. |

But presumably with having to take work home in the form of corrections, evaluations and the like...
The Public High School deal seems the worst of all; Uni is best and at least at Hagwons you're not busting your arse outside of work... |

Public school foreign teachers do NOT have homework. Who's been feeding you that line of *beep*?
8:30-4:30, no weekends, no homework, full benefits and no surprises on payday.
If you do the supplimental classes you (with your posted quals) will pull in about 2.8 mil per month.
Unless you have a PhD there is NO place else where you are going to make that coin legally. |

Hey, Miles, where are these "Hagwons" where everything is perfect? In "Fantasyland"? |
