. . . and wanted to spend it somewhere in Korea besides Seoul, where would you go? Why would you choose that place? Please provide specific details and explanation to support your response.

I think maybe I've been writing too many IBT questions Confused

I spent a long weekend in the Ganghwado area. Even though the river was really low and the rafting was pathetic, it was nice just to be out on some clean water. The ATVing was a lot of fun even though the guide was overprotective (I was the straggler who would lag way back and then hammer it in an all too brief flash of speed before being stuck in line again.) There was something surreal about riding up into the mountains and looking out over the "famous" DMZ rice fields to NK from a ROK foxhole. The people there spoke no english. They were incredibly friendly.

So, what else is out there? City. Countryside. Whatever.

I would say, go down to Jeollanamdo. Jirisan, Boseong, Yeosu, Jindo, lots of cool things to see. It's nice down there and the south coast is pretty scenic.

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll check it out.

Anyone else visited places in Korea worth telling about?

The Ulleung-do recommendation sounds good. I've never been, but it sounds like an interesting experience.

I live in Jeollanam-do and have been to most of the tourist sites. PM me if you want more information about them. There are a few things i've really liked, but on the whole the touristy stuff hasn't been too impressive. (I've travelled around because I live down here and it's something to see/do, but I don't want to get your hopes up about anything here). Moreover, the towns with these things are usually one-trick-ponies, meaning you'd get a bus to town, visit these places for an hour, then take the bus out of town. I wouldn't like to spend a week on a bus.

If I had a week's vacation to spend in Jeollanam-do I'd like to first start at Mokpo and visit the harbor there. Then I'd take a ferry to the outlying islands in Shinan county. I'd also visit the islands in Wando and Jindo counties. But, that's just me.

edit: a few names:
Hong-do
Heuksan-do
Bigeum-do - all 3 in Shinan
Cheongsan-do in Wando
Soan-do in Wando

Seorak San and the surrounding area. Nearby is the Oh Sek onchon, or hot spring sauna place.

Beside that I would agree with Jeolla Nam Do.
It is a beautiful province overall, and Hook San Do is worth the ferry ride.
It depends on what kind of stuff you are interested in.

I like Mokpo. In the Summer it is nice to go up to the tourist strip on Yudal Mountain after dark. There is a row of restaurants overlooking the city.
You can have Haemul Pa Jun and Dong Dong Joo and enjoy the view of the city lights and the coast below.
