|
|
Hi all. I'm a newbie (sorry! but I've read the forums EXTENSIVELY!) and I'm looking at a position in Choong Chung Buk Do - a public school, through Rowan Hall / ESL Planet. Everything seems fantastic - a six month contract (which is my preference), airfare prepaid, public school (which is better than a hagwon, according to most posts I've read), great salary... I don't know anything about the area, however - according to the ad, it's about 2 hours from Seoul. Is it a large, medium, small place? Any advice on that?
Thanks! |

That's just a province name. What's the town name? If they're not giving you a town name they're probably going to stick you in some manure-smelling middle of nowhere place in the rice fields. Also the province you're talking about is kind of the West Virginia of Korea, I wouldn't recommend it... |

i worked in cheongju which is in chungchongbukdo for my first 2 years in korea.
it was an excellent introduction to korean life and culture.
its right in the middle of korea so getting to different cities is a breeze.
i would definitely recommend it! |

Cheongju's a good city, but if he's two hours out from Seoul he's not in Cheongju and the rest of the province isn't like Cheongju |

well, I do live in WV right now, so at least it wouldn't be TOO much culture shock...LOL. I'm not sure of the town yet, I've just exchanged a few emails, but I'll be sure to find out. Thanks!

Just research the exact town you live in. You don't want to be a newbie in a town where you're the only person who can speak English fluently. |
