My co-teacher and I are trying to convince our bosses to cut us some slack with the summer camp this year.
Last year it was simply hellacious.
2 weeks (including Satudays from 9-12)
9 am -5 pm
well over 30 students split into 3 classes with 3 teachers and coteachers.
What we want is
1 week M-F or 2 weeks M-F only
with shorter hours perhaps 9-12 or 1 pm
1 class of up to 15 students
We had a 8 day winter camp that was fantastic. It started on a Friday and ended on a Saturday. 9-5 but with only 12 students....
The original schedule doesn't seem THAT bad but the camp was really hard on us. I don't think we are asking too much considering that we went through the fires of hell once and don't see the point in dooming ourselves once again...
So, what hours did you guys have last year or if your school already scheduled your camp, what hours were you given?
Thanks!

9AM-2PM. M-F. 2 weeks.
Question. Why did you work on a Saturday? The standard public school contracts I've seen give Saturdays and Sundays off. |

I got told yesterday I will be doing 4 weeks at school, probably 9-1 like the summer.
Plus one week with other schools in the area, the kids sleep over apparently and stay the whole week. I'm not sleeping over though, no matter what they say!!! |

Not a stinking clue. The camp hours are not in my old or new contract and last year I didn't really care but after dealing with it last year, I want no part of it this year. On top of this, I will be leaving and I don't want to set a precedent that camp must be this long and be on a Saturday. I was their first NET so I'm trying to leave with a good framework for future teachers.... |

What jurisdiction are you working under?

(from the standard GEPIK contract)
Article 7(Work Hours)

Article 12 (Paid Leave)
2.During school vacations , Employee may be asked to participate in special classes or English camps, up to 20 hours per week. |

Well...I'm in Jeollabukdo and I'm not with EPIK.
I will look at my contract again and if I can weasel my way out of stupid pointless Saturday camp sessions then so much the better... |

Well...I looked. There is no mention of either summer or winter camps.
I have the same line as you about no work on Saturdays and Sundays. But the next section says:
The work hours of employee may follow the normal work schedule of civil servants of the Korean Government; however, such work hours may be adjusted by employer.
So, I guess they can make me work Saturdays? |

No. No saturdays AND look for the other clause under the paid vacation section of your contract OR contact Wenise Kim at the education office. She will straighten out your school in regards to policy in Gyeonggi province (whether you are GEPIK or not.
ALL teachers in Gyeonggi province fall under the juristiction of and must follow the policies of the provincial office even if you were a local hire by the school.

I guess my schedule for camps isn't too bad, all things comsidered.
Week 1 - got to do a city-run camp with other foreign teachers in the area and Korean co-teachers... no idea what this will be like, so anyone who has done a setup similar to this, let me know what it's like please. (5 days - 1/2 days)
Week 2 - In-school camp at school #1 - no idea what anyone is expecting me to do here (5 days - 1/2 days)
Week 3 - Ditto at school #2 (5 days - 1/2 days)
Vacation - 7 working days (12 days straight in total with weekends and a red day in there somewhere) |

Mine is two weeks from 10am to 2pm with no co-teacher. I'm on my own with summer camp.
My co-teacher will have nothing to do with summer camp. He is going on an English trip to Canada and America durning summer vacation. When he returns he is go to a different public school. |
