Last night, I lamented, I yearned, and I cried. In the wake of this spiritual upheaval I found one blessing. Claw machines. Now I've tried my hand at them before, sometimes quite embarassingly, but last night I was touched, and with that touch I touched others. Behold my bounty.
All for the mere price of 30,000 including all the beer I drank to break my 10,000's. That's about the price of three of your yerbe mate fair-trade larges with soy based whip cream. I am truly blessed.
The whale wasn't won last night, I carry him around for other reasons. |

Why does it seem like everyone I know in this country at some point becomes a crane addict? |

I am truly impressed, It took me about 10,000 just to get some cheapo flashlight and that's the best I've ever done. Did you see how much weight they put in those things, damn! |

haha. With 3,000 WON, I have won my wife a doggy stuffed animal and a pretty big yellow-plush teddy bear.
I figured out the trick and now I look for those types of machines. The others, well, BEWARE! |

Ha! I remember those! They only lasted about a year cause some Korean's were complaining about it being cruel or something...I laughed about that, too! |

You know that the crane, once it has something in its grasp, will drop the item once it hits the part where it is time to bring the item to the drop slot. So, the most important part is to make sure that the drop slot has a ramp of stuff built around it; a mountain of stuff if you will.
Then, you will use one grab to bring it in line with the drop. IT will drop the item. Then, you will use another grab to bring the item up to the slot where the crane will drop it on the mound built next to the drop slot. The third grab, you will use it not to carry the thing, but to drag it so that most of the object's weight in over the leaning part of the drop slot. Thus, when the crane shakes (as they all do), the majority of the prize's weight is on the slant and this will cause the item to slide down and into the prize box where you can retrieve it.
Crazy, I know. But, i have tested it and it works! AND THESE PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
Some of them have absolutely NOTHING next to the drop slot. Stay away from these cranes. Play the games that have a bunch of stuff building a mountain next to the drop slot. Then jsut do what i have outlined above and you'll win.
Here is a picture of the stuff I won with only 3,000 Won by using my method (for my baby...aka...my wife)

That makes sense but the lighters, if one is so inclined to pursue, are much easier to get.
Try to get their center of gravity in the middle of the crane. You have to have an arm on each side of whatever you're picking up so don't try for something bigger than when the arms are outstretched and make sure you can reach three sides of the item. Also you have to be able to know when to give up, even after dropping 1,000won in and getting it oh so close, when it drops in a bad position.
Realize that in addition to the shaking that the crane twists as it goes down (just like in the States). |

I won two 3-pound lobsters on my first 3,000 won outside my hakwon -- had to walk home with one in each hand. Later they restocked with much smaller lobsters. Was almost comically easy -- drop the crane on a lobster to piss it off, it would rise up and spread its claws menacingly for a bit -- easy to scoop up then -- I ate lobster all that week, and eventually cleared the tank...like I said, they restocked with much smaller fare, and I couldn't scoop em up... <sigh>. |
