There was a post last week from a teacher there (I think it was there, anyway), who said that the school was cracking down on student/teacher relationships. He also mentioned that the Korean co-worker who told him about this said that they were only acting on rumors, and had no proof of anything (not that proof is ever needed when it comes to attacking whitie).

Aren't college students considered adults in Korea?

Hey, as long as everything is consentual, go for it. Hit up on all the uni women. Why not? Give them the full flavor of the West.

In most N. American universities it is forbidden for a prof. to date a student. One can be fired. I remember at my university there was a prof. dating a student who was very much his junior. It was a major scandal and healmost lost his job.

How many foreign professor do we have in Korea?

Most are Uniwon language teachers. Does the uniwon contracts stipulate punitive measures for having relationship with uni students?

Tenure in the US is a powerful thing. If you are a professor and on tenure then you can pretty much get away with anything.

Actually, many of them do have a clause prohibiting such relationships between teachers (unless you were married to the person prior to signing the contract) and between teachers / staff and the students.

Why would anyone sign a crap contract like that? It's like telling you not to eat any candies in a candy store.

None. Legally that is. However, we do have thousands of foreign university teachers calling themselves professors. Immigration does not allow foreign professors unless they are tenured at the university (or a REAL visiting professor from another country on temp assignment in korea) and korean universities do not tenure foreign teachers. Even E-1 visas make no reference to a foreign teacher being a professor. Besides...what's a professor (Gilligan's Island)? Besides an official sounding title?

At Concordia University profs could marry their students. I know because it happened in our department.

Really?!? I went to Concordia and I had no idea. I wonder if McGill would allow that.
