I can leave pretty much around now- Augustish. I have no experience that quantifies up to the level the 2007 EPIK application requires. So I guess that's pretty important to know upfront. Is there anyone out there that I could hook up with my recruiters (Footprints) to give me a great Public High School job that's in a city with a good amount western consciousness and products as well as not on the yellow dusty China side of the country? I prefer the ocean and Japan side, personally. Please? I'm a good candidate for a miracle.

I meant I have experiences but they don't seem to be noteworthy based upon what EPIK wants, like over 6 months or a year. So, I apply as having no experience.

There are EPIK teachers straight out of university. What specific requirement are you lacking?

Does EPIK hire for Busan?

You may need to go through the Busan office of education. Check on the pusanweb portal ( http://www.pusanweb.com ).

Busan is a special administrative district (like Seoul) and to the best of my knowledge they do their own hiring and do NOT use EPIK.

Use a recruiter that specializes in public schools and ask for BUSAN specifically.

BTW, Busan and southern Korea is NOT immune from yellow dust - it goes all the way to Japan.

Why teach high school? The students won't ever listen to you. They worried about college entrance exams and don't care about English. The kids don't even respect you.

If you think high school kids will have a better grasp of English than you are going to be in for a surprise.

Teach elementary where the kids still have some respect for teachers.

I think its the other way around. They F=up, no college. They actually need to pay attention and get good grades. Younger kids cant behave, older kids get in big trouble if they don't.Sit down and stop talking are more common in youger classes I beleive.

Have you ever taught in Korea yet desperation? If you have then you would realize what they are saying is true. Trust me, there are many high school students who hate foreigners and don't think about studying English. It's not really their fault, it's the society. They start hagwons at such a young age and by the time they are in high school they are bitter.

I have not taught or even been in Korea. I have taught in America and Taiwan briefly. I've taught all ages.

What I have come to learn is that certain people do well with certain ages.

Why you snarky Dave's people who are cut out for other age groups, presume that I would be too, is beyond me.

For example, if you are sugary sweet and extra patient, younger kids are good for you. If you are made of steel and still able to be nice and sweet, middle school is for you. If you really don't feel like being sweet, HS is better.

Also if you are ugly, weird, or a nerd, you would do well in younger ages, HS kids would be cruel.

Not to toot my own horn or anything, but no matter what you say, I have a feeling that the way I look and act will win respect from teenagers where a nerd would be eaten alive. I'm unusually "cool" and I know the MTV "rockstar" nonsense that they all have in the back of their minds that counteracts their xenophobia ---will work in my favor.

I could be wrong but it's worth a shot. I know ages. My mother was a teacher for 31 years, now a school board member. Don't tell me I don't know what it takes to coddle. I'm not down with that.

If the HS kids mess up, they could ruin their chances in college and their parents will be ON them. I know that. I will use that against them. In little kid brains, there is the "I am the teacher threat" or maybe "no recess" in teenagers its, "Letter to your Mother" or its "You'll Never go to a good college, Never get Married well". I think I'd prefer HS, sorry.

I am a double scorpio born and raised in NY, I know how to speak and act so that I am feared, respected, and loved. Don't underestimate the power of my presence.

And, at the end of the day, I have a co-teacher to protect me, and their parents don't pay tuition so if I get eaten alive, nobody'll care too much, not even me. Rolling Eyes

You ought to listen to people on the ground who know what they are talking about. But it doesn't sound like you will. Too cool. Good luck.
