I rarely eat rice with my meals now. I used to eat it about 3-4 times a week, but I'm pretty sick of it now. Have you ever met a Korean in a similar situation? I'm not dissing Koreans or their food, but rice 3 times a day, 365, must be tiresome |

I'm the same. I don't mind rice, but I just can't handle it all the time. Forget 3 times a day.....I even find once a day a bit much sometimes. You should see the looks I get from the other teachers at my school at lunch time. There are days when I finish lunch and I haven't touched my rice. The Koreans all look at me and inquire as to why I'm not eating my rice. On the positive side, I've lost some weight since cutting back on the rice . |

I have had a similar response to rice ... I know that with school lunches I am taking and eating less rice than I was taking a couple of months ago ... I also tend to not cook rice to eat at home ... though I will eat it when eating out ... There is no way I could take as much rice as many of the korean teachers do at lunch time and eat all of it.

thats why you mix it up man. Throw in a few noodle dishes here and there. If you are sick of rice and noodles then go eat sangyupsal or galbi and no rice. Or go get some Shabu shabu.
Plenty of non rice dishes in Korea. I get tired of rice sometimes too. Then when I go get a noodles dish or just have something western like a burger/fries. |

I do mix it up. I think the food here is great. Just wondering if anyone has encountered a korean who is sick of rice. If I had to eat a food staple, say potaotoes or bread, with virtually every meal, I'd tire of it real quick |

Yes, it's terrible sin in Korea to leave even a grain of rice in your bowl. |

And that means................what exactly? I'm sure there's a point in there somewhere but I'm not making the connection. One's a food and one's a drink(?). |

Its a catch-22. If you don't finish your rice, the impression is that the food sucks. If you DO eat every grain of rice then they'll just bring you more. |

When I try to eat white rice, I can't help but feel like I'm eating a bowl of sugar. Same thing with white bread. It goes really well with a nice bowl of kimchi jjigae, but still I try to only have a few bites. I've definitely also lost some weight since I stopped eating it so much. |

That's why you mix it with bo-rri (whole grain) with white rice. |
