I lost my Mom in April and now it seems my Father is in bad condition. He is in a coma and may never wake up again or perhaps die anytime. I have already went back for my Mom 2 months ago. Just wondering if my father passes away would I be able to go again??It's been only 2 months since my Moms death. You guys think they will give me another week for my dad???I'm at a pubic school.....just wondering if I will get fired for taking another week off.......any ideas would be great....cheers

I am sorry to hear that.

If you're in public school, you shouldn't have any problem.

Hagwon? I don't know.

Damn, that sucks. I don't know the public system, but they sure should let you go home. Your dad is in a coma for pete's sake. Have you said goodbye to him? Maybe he's waiting for you to say goodbye. At least then, you won't feel so bad being here if he dies after you get back.

Then again, what do I know. I've still both my parents.

Will say some prayers for you.

O.P.

I'm sorry to hear about this.

There should be no question as to "if you can go home". You should go home, whether or not your school "grants" you permission.

Go home.

Good luck.

I can see no reason why they would not give you the same leave again ... My putlic school contract which includes this clause does not limit it to once in a year .. so you should be ok if you do need to go again ... though I hope it is not necessary for you ... Will be thinking of you ... It is not easy when things like this happen when you are so far away ... It happened to my mother a couple of years ago when I was in England (I am from Australia)

My heart goes out to you in this tragic situation.

I would think that if they are unwilling to let you have the time they would at least give you a LoR. If not I am sure the Labor board could force the issue.

Then you could get another contract eslewhere.

But, I would try to retain the original employer first.

Good luck, take care.

How awful; you have my condolences.

I say screw them if they don't give you time off--if they don't, you probably don't want to be working for them anyway.

FWIW, summer vacation is coming up, so they shouldn't have a problem.

My condolences,

tell your school what your situation is; there's a death-clause in the contract and i hope they'll honor it in your case.

Either way, you should be with your family at this grieving hour.
