One day surely they are going to make a hollywood flick about a
year in the life of an EFL teacher in Korea.

Think about it, the scenarios and the funny scenes you could put in. (I know they aren't funny now if you are living them, but they will be to a cinema going audience)

How would the story in your movie go? Would it be a drama? a comedy? a romantic flick? a romantic comedy?

I think a good star for the leading role of the hollywood version of 'EFL teacher in Korea' would be Jack Black but who would play the dodgy Canadian? The mad Kiwi? and Mr Kim? Who else would you cast in the film?

At least they got some real actors. But the whole gangster angle just sounds stupid.

That director has been trying to get that movie off the ground for years. 2003 was the first I'd heard of it. The IMDB page has been there for years, but the movie still hasn't been made.

I'm fairly certain it will never get made!

A unique caper in the vein of Ocean's 11 meets Lost in Translation. Jeremy Keller a wayward college graduate goes to Korea to teach English to 10 year-olds. Immediately he falls in with a group of eccletic expatriates - Casey surf-slacker from Nebraska who now teaches English; Mark, a washed-up pro ball player with a gambling addiction; Albert, Mark's Korean-Canadian translator; Ian, an outrageous British DJ; and Vanilla Manilla, a sexy nightclub diva stuck in a low-rent club. Jeremy is quickly lured into the darkly seductive underworld of Pusan, the modern Casablanca. When they discover Korean gangsters never carry guns, they hatch an outrageous plan - to rob them.

It sounds like a crap story to be honest and why? Because the majority of EFL teachers in Korea couldn't organize a piss up in a brewery nevermind rob a load of unarmed Korean gangsters.

Also they all sound a bit too cool to be teaching in Korea

EFLs teachers in Korea are generally layabouts, drunkards, sexual deviants, ne'er do wells and complete fools which makes them a damn sight more interesting than the four main characters above.

My synopsis for a book/film is far better

Darren Peach graduated from the University of Hull with his third class degree in media studies with two job offers, a job on his dads bin lorry (garbage truck) and a job teaching English in small town Korea.

He chooses the latter on the basis of there being 10 hours less work a week teaching English in Korea than there is on the bins as well as a 2pm starting time meaning he can continue having his lie ins.

Working at the 'Happy Talk' school in smalltown Gyeongsangnam-do , the story follows Darren Peach and his life in Korea over 11 months.

Main Characters:

Darren Peach: Small town bigot from England who comes to terms with culture shock, his prejudices and keeping a classroom of 10 year olds entertained which further implodes his abject humiliation to being near unemployable.

Ralph: A co teacher at the 'happy talk' school, a 30 something dodgy Canadian who knows the age of consent in every country on the planet and who came to Korea based on this fact and whose favourite line is 'the flower of womanhood bloosoms in the spring as well as the autumn'

The only westerner who welcomes Korean kids saying 'herro' to him as he goes over to them armed with a pocket of dolly mixtures.

Kimberley Sorensen: Darren Peach's girlfriend and co-worker at 'happy talk' school, an Oriental studies major and a hippy chick from Minnesota

Mr Kim: The director of the 'happy talk' school also known as Adolf/Pol Pot/Der Furher/Pigsy/Kim Il Jung by Darren Peach.

Jung Hwan (Gordon) Park: Korean grammar teacher who is also no1 snitch to Mr Kim
