Of the 8 foreign men I know who are married to Korean women, only 2 have a father-in-law.

Just coincidence, or is there something about not having a father that allows Korean women to be more open?

Usually it's the dad who objects to a pure Korean girl mixing her genes with a dirty round-eye.
My father-in-law wasn't too happy with my wife's choice. He also knew it was 'her way or the highway'.

My father in law thinks I'm awesome: I have an MA, work hard to support the family, and generously give gifts during holidays and what not. Plus, some of the usual crap that occurs between families of the marrieds is totally non-existent, seeing as my folks are far, far away.

But I too know many round-eyes married to Koreans with no father in law.

I've often wondered about this myself, and can't get a straight answer from my wife either. In most cases I know of, one of the two parents has been out of the picture (My wife's Mom died when she was in middle school. She has 3 older brothers.). A good friend has been married (and divorced) twice. In the first one the parents were divorced, the other the gal was on her own.

I have a Korean husband. No father in law. He drowned some 10 years before I knew my husband.

My Father in Law was captured by the North Koreans. When he escaped and hightailed on foot his companion running alongside was shot and killed. He kept running making his way to KyongSangNamDo.
He's a good 76-odd, still gets around under his own steam. He hates Japanese, Americans, and North Koreans equally. Lately he is starting to hate Koreans now for their overt materialism.
He used to be one of the most straight faced men. Alas, now he's a codgy old bugger who likes to hit the soju. I like him a lot.

I took him to NZ where he caught a duck by the legs in a public park and suggested barbeque.

I have a father-in-law...he is a good guy too.

It took a little while ( a few weeks) but we soon got along great. He is now retired which means he spends heaps of time with my son.

The guy is a gold mine of stories as well.

Dont you know that in the Korean marriage market women with dead fathers are looked down on and are not desirable to the families of potential husbands. Hence many Korean women with no fathers seek out foreign marriage partners who have no such notions.

The 4 people I know that are married to Koreans all don't have father in laws. Their mother in laws are pretty cool though.
