Has anyone ever done it? Due to the massive move my wife and I are about to undertake, we are sending as much of it home asap.
I just wonder:
1) Is it even possible to mail a guitar (irregular shape and all)?
2) What would be the cost involved?
We have two guitars, a banjo and an erhu. My wife would take one guitar, I'd mail my banjo and I'd take my guitar on the plane (my er=hu going into my backpack.
Taking it as an extra bag on the plane would mean paying an additional 200 and I'd rather mail it if it's cheaper.
thanks |

If you can get that puppy packed into a hardshell case, there is nothing like international taekbae to the rescue. I haven't done this, but I had a fiend who shipped a keyboard out before. |

I mailed a Saxophone. Make sure its in a hard case. If you send it by boat, it should be less than $100, but it'll take a 2-3 months to get there. Anyone that says 1 months is pulling. your leg. |

Get yourself a hard-foamed shelled case. They have them at Nakwon Arcade and they're black. Very light. 40k won or so. Or a TREC case from Seagull 110K won. Very light. |

You USUALLY cannot send a guitar by mail from KOREA.
The problem lies in the maximum dimension allowable by Korea post.
The total linear dimension cannot exceed 2 meters.
They way of measuring is length + height + width + height + width = 2 meters.
The irregular shape (curved) doesn't matter. They use the max measurement in each dimension.
If your packaged guitar is smaller than that, they away you go. Most guitars, because of the width will exceed this measurement.
Your banjo may be small enough.

Thanks for the advice kids!
ps...I'd wager the banjo would fit alright.
As for my wife's guitar, we probably will get a hardshell; but the guitar itself was a fairly cheap one. |
