yeah, that's right, I am looking for one to store 'things' on it. Any suggestions? I was looking at this one:

Why not just but an internal hard drive (2.5" or 3.5") and a corresponding enclosure of your choosing? Likely save you a pretty penny in the end...

Just to store stuff? Sure, that would do, but I'd personally buy external enclosure and HD of my own choosing just like Chevro1et said.

You might want to look for a enclosure with firewire and USB 2 connection. One interesting model I'd like to see in Korea is Ministack v2. I'm sure there are many enclosures just like it in the market if you keep looking for them.

If your mobo has e-sata and/or fast wireless... even better! Hey, cables are soo 90s!

PS. For storage purposes RAID enclosures might be an overkill.

Similar to one of the items posted above, this Korean company produces hard drive enclosures that can also play media through your TV.

I bought one in Daegu last year and it has been fantastic. I bought the Mini C2000 lite and got a 120GB hard drive put in it. Incredibly small and portable and great for taking round your friends house to watch movies etc. Comes with a nice little remote control so it basically functions like a DVD player. Also plays any movie format you can think of (AVI, DVD, MPEG etc). Oh, and you can also just use it for storage as well.

you can also get bigger 3.5 ones that are wireless. It will be around 200,000 plus the harddrive.

Bought a 500GB for 100k and an enclosure that takes both IDE and SATA for 25k. Really happy with it.

it is really simple to put that together, chicken, if you buy the right parts.. plug and play, practically! the hard part is making sure that you get a drive and enclosure that are the same (sata or eide)...

don't need a fast computer for it, usb or firewire would play mp3s or movies just fine.. extra speed is basically for copying/moving

i recommend going small for storage. say 2.5" or 1.8" HDD and corresponding external enclosure.

the reason for this is two-fold:
1) it's much more portable.
2) it can be powered through USB alone. (not for all 2.5" cases though, so check before buying)

the latter reason is why i would go small for storage. you don't have a separate power adapter for the smaller drives, so all you have to do is connect it to the computer and it's good to go. with 3.5" HDD, you will need to plug the external HD to some power source for it to work.

of course, you pay for this convenience by sacrificing in terms of GB/$. 3.5" drives are much better value in terms of storage space per dollar (or won spent).

so that's the decision you have to make. is your external HDD for backing up lots of file (so storage space is the most important thing? then you should go with a 3.5" HDD. if it's for easily transferring files between two or more computer, then you might want to go for a more portable and convenient solution then just chase the almight GB/$ metric.

personally, i don't need to back up that many files (easily under 10 GB of files i don't ever want to lose) and prefer the portability and convenience of smaller external HDs. it's something you might want to consider.

Would definitely recommend getting an Avix or a Dvix. They are awesome. No burning vids you download to disc to watch, just pop them on this little drive and hook it up to your tv and good to go. Plus it will show pictures and play music. You can use it to store other things too if you want to.
I use mine to play tv shows and movies on my tv. Stopped my cable because I was never using it cause I use my Avix more often.
