Food always makes for some interesting conversation. Ask a Korean if they prefer Asian gochu varieties or Western gochu. Some Koreans actually prefer the dark red Western-style gochu over the smaller Korean ones, due to the size and explosion of flavor.

I recommend not making 'gochu' a topic of casual conversation Ramen, especially asking about Korean versus Western varieties.
Why? Because 'gochu' is slang for pen!s. Gochujang is the red chili pepper. Tradionally Korean couples, when conceiving children and wishing for a boy, string gochujangs around the door frame, becuase of the supposed visual similarity between the red peppers and pen!ses. |

| Careful indeed...but Gochujang is the pepper paste. The actual pepper is actually called gochu. Just be sure you're clear on the context when talking about gochus. |
