Check out this story about Koreans in NZ, though to be fair, only the staff are identified as Koreans - the violent meglomaniac employers' nationality is not named. But... |

You mean this story? If so, I must be missing something....
Police rescue injured kidnap victim in raid on hotel room
KIM RUSCOE - The Dominion Post | Friday, 15 June 2007
Police say a man found in an Auckland hotel was abducted from Christchurch five days ago.
Officers swooped on the Rainbow Hotel yesterday afternoon after a tip-off a man had been kidnapped and was being held there against his will.
A man, believed to be Korean, was found with head injuries in a room. Four other men were in the room with him.
Inspector Gary Hill said the injured man had been admitted to Auckland Hospital but his injuries were not life-threatening.
He appeared to have been taken from Christchurch by two of the men.
A police spokeswoman said a Korean Consulate staff member phoned police at 1.45pm yesterday, saying a person had called them claiming a man had been kidnapped and was at the hotel.
Language barriers had made it difficult for police to determine exactly what had happened, she said.
"It's not known yet whether the injured man was taken to the hotel against his will or if he was already at the hotel when detained against his will."
Korean interpreters were being sought to help interview the four men at Auckland Central police station.
A room at the budget Rainbow Hotel on Nelson St had been declared a crime scene.
The alleged kidnapping is Auckland's second this week.
Two men claimed they were held at gunpoint in their Whangaparaoa home, north of Auckland, for more than 11 hours on Sunday.
One broke both ankles when he tried to escape by jumping off a second-floor balcony.
The alleged kidnapping took place three hours after they quit their jobs in favour of higher paying jobs elsewhere. |

background info...
...the man claiming to have been kidnapped was a chef who had been offered a better paying job in another reastaurant. The chef's employers allegedly kidnapped him and roughed him up to stop him working at the other restaurant. I didn't realise this wasn't mentioned in the Dominion Post article.
Update...
...turns out the chef wasn't actually kidnapped and he was in NZ under a fake name after a recent deportation. |
