a student of mine told me she wants to practice listening to English on her Mp3 player. she would really like to have files of the show "Friends".
Does anyone know of any sites where I could download audio files from tv shows? Since she's keen on learning English (rare in my Middle school) i would really like to help her out.

If you can find a site that streams TV progs like Friends (try TVlinks.co.uk) what you can then do is install Soundtap, run it, play an episode of Friends and Soundtap will record the audio in the background.
You can download a free version through the link, although I paid for the full-version just for piece of mind.
It's fairly straight forward once you've figured it out. All saved audio files can then either be burnt to disc or uploaded onto your MP3 player. I use it to record music mixes from on-line radio stations, although I've never used it to record audio from a TV show. However, the principle is the same; Soundtap will record whatever signals it picks up so make sure all your other Windows applications are shut down - I recorded a 2-hour funk/hip hop mix and when I played it back you could hear all the Windows sounds in the background as I was surfin whilst I was recording!
You can switch off all your computer/mouse sounds through:
control panel ---> sounds,speech & audio devices ---> sounds & audio devices ---> sounds ---> sound scheme then select No Sound.

| If you have the files of friends, you can use a program like virtualdub to strip the audio out of it. You may have to convert it to mp3, I'm not sure as I haven't checked the latest version of virtualdub yet. |

oh my gosh thank you! but it's too complicated for me to try and explain that to my student. I'm not going to take that much work creating files for her. But thanks for the tip. If I ever need to do an activity like this in class, it's a good thing to know. |
