I made up a star system to rate bathrooms. Sort of like a hotel has stars.

Soap: 1 star

Paper towels or hand dryers: 1 star

Sit down toilets: 1 star

Hot water from the faucets: 1 star

No ajumma cleaning while you pee: 1 more star.

How many stars is the bathroom at your workplace? Mine is usually 2. Usually no ajumma and it has sitdown shitters, but nothing else.

3 stars for my high school. Soap usually. Throne toilet. No ajumma (except for today actually. First time). Never hot water. Never paper.

I think you need to add another star for a lack of an extremely strong urine smell.

6 stars for every Outback Steakhouse bathroom. I've ever been in here. Two kinds of soap! Air freshener detectable! Classical music! Luxurious hand towels! Object d'art (kind of) on the walls!

Kudos Outback.

Eh, I guess 2 stars, but I'd have to deduct a half-star just because it's so filthy. There is a throne toilet and there's a communal bar of soap. But the students clean up, so you can guess how well that goes.

I hope you all have the luxury to visit the public bathrooms in the Grand Intercontinental Hotel near COEX Mall in Seoul. I was so impressed that I even refolded the end of the toilet paper into a triangle.

I have a friend who gave me a great piece of advice. A few months back I was visiting him in Paris. We had gone out for a bite of great Lebanese food for lunch and as we were waiting for a bus on les Champs Elysees, I got a sudden urge to go.

I told my friend and he suggested I go into they Hyatt just a block down. He said "The best hotels have the best bathrooms. "

Walk in like you know exactly where you're going and have every right to be there. Find the facilities, usually near the lobby area, and voila!

Mst bathrooms in Korea probably fall into the minus range. I was so embarassed the other day when I met my student's Mom for the first time, and I had to shake her hand with a wet hands. I apologized ad told her I just came from the bathroom and our school had no paper towels that day. Rolling Eyes I blotted my hand on my pants first, but still...utterly embarassing. The hotels here have nice bathrooms though. I'm talking Interconti, etc., not Ye Olde Yogwon...hahaha

Starbucks with their own bathrooms are usually good. A major hotel is great. Department stores are good.

E-Marts are good, too. They're my go-to spot if I'm in a city.

Surprisingly, the McDonald's near Taipei Main Station had an immaculate bathroom, considering the amount of traffic and that it's a 24-hour location.

1 star for my elementary school. There is no ajumma unless I go around 3PMish. All squaters, no hot water, no paper towels and no soap. If I go to the other building and use that washroom, there is a 4 star bathroom. No Ajumma there.

Five stars, six if you are counting toilet paper. I work in a posh officetel with a normal rich person bathroom.
