I've never stayed there, but their rates look good. You could have a single room in a yeogwan/motel for 25,000-35,000 a night, but this guest house looks good because it is near Hongdae (party central) and your friend could meet many other travelers. |

I stayed here for a night. It is reasonably priced and close to a lot of tourist things like Namsan Tower.

I put the Slackers up at Kim's Guesthouse for three nights. It seemed pretty good. I think it was 15 000 per night. There are two separate buildings half a block from each other, and there was never any supervision I was aware of. All the people living there seemed to be good at staying quiet. Problem is a person travelling alone would probably be forced to share a room with others. The only problem I encountered was it's a bit out of the way for Hapjeong.
Another option is just a yeogwan. I had a friend stay in one next to Hongdae Playground for three weeks for only 11 000 per night. Shared bathroom and the accomodations are closet-sized, but you can't beat the location or cost. Plus it was clean and not sleazy and most others there were students. |

11000 per night? Pretty good for a cheap place to crash. The name? Or where is this 'Hongdae Playground'? |

It's right across the alley from the Mexican restaurant next to the playground. If you've ever been to Hongdae you know where I'm talking about. |

For a month, if your friend wants to budget at all, they should stay at a goshiwon (고시원) or goshitel (고시텔) (they are the same thing). I stayed at one and paid 7,000/night but that was becuz I wanted one with a window. I think the windowless rooms were 5550/night. You have to stay for a while, no few night stays, but you can pay by the week. Internet, TV, shared bathrooms, shared kitchen, washing machine and rice are all included. Sure the rooms small and you can hear people snoring but I doubt they'll be wanting to hang out in their room if they're here visiting you in Korea.
Edit: Why the hell did it bleep, oh...I see. That's pretty stupid. The word is go-shi-tel.

I'm not aware of any go-shiwon (tel) that rent for less than a month (they used to, but now it looks like a month only).
If you know of one that allows weekly, please inform.

The one I stayed at in Cheonho did. Opposite side of the street of Hyundai Department Store and about .5km down the road, parallel to the river. That's where I stayed. I said I was going to stay for 3 weeks initially but ended up there for 1.5 months. After those first three weeks I paid by the week. |

Ah, that's apparently a rarity these days. How long ago was that?
Half a km down the road from Hyundai Dept store, walking towards Chamsil, on the left side? I think I remember seeing that one before.
May be useful to know the name just for future reference, if you can recall.
PS Racetraitor: Did not see that cheapo motel in Hongdae when I went there recently. Saw that Mexican restaurant "Casa" (whatever) though. I was unfamiliar with that side of the road.
