In the morning I take my one a day vitamin.
Breakfast:
1 Bottle of green tea.
2 boiled eggs (180 calories or less)
Lunch:
Kimche Chigae
Here I'm not sure, it's a delivery from a resteraunt and I have no idea to guess what the calories are in it. Any ideas? I saw one website that said it was 180 calories for 300g. Whatever that means. It's a medium sized bowl. Any guesses on the calorie content here?
1 cup of rice (200 calories or less)
1 teaspoon of the Korean hotsauce (no idea? anyone know? Red pepper paste stuff, the name escapes me)
Dinner:
3 cups of rice (Under 550 calories)
Two teaspoons of hotsauce (don't know)
So, the calories I know for sure are about 950.
I am guessing maybe the kimche chigae may be about 500-600? Any thoughts? I'm trying to stay under 1500 calories every day of the week. I drink more than 8 cups of water every day too. |

hey,
If you're looking to count calories, then why not try out a website like www.calorieking.com or www.nutrawatch.com to help you? The latter is the better one because you can sign up for a free account and keep a food diary which will track your daily caloric intake for you.
Remember to include the calories for any oils that you cook in.
I have a sheet at home that outlines the calorie counts in a lot of different Korean foods, I can pm you the specifics for the jiggae later if you like.
You want to make sure if you are keeping things on a strict caloric intake that you still get a balanced diet.
As it is, one cup of rice has approximately 200 calories, and you have yourself down for 800 calories, just from the rice alone. Also, 3 cups of rice in a single sitting is A LOT of food.
You could just as easily cut that down to 1 cup and do a stir fry with a healthy serving of mixed veggies, some soy sauce and other spices that would not only be healthier, but also tastier and more satisfying.
...you could also try switching barley for the rice.
...that's just my two cents. |

or brown rice. if you're trying to lose weight (or just trying to eat healthy in general), you should avoid white foods - white rice, white flour, white sugar, etc. |

| I couldn't help noticing the extreme lack of fruit and vegetables in that diet. That can't be a good thing. |

I eat the three cups of rice spread out but am calling it dinner. I'm using what I have, then I plan on buying brown rice from the store.
Sometimes i substitute a cup of rice for a bananna, or a cup of juice. I've been doing this a week now. I eat normally on the weekends but try to keep calories below 2000 still.
If you could PM me that, it would be great.
Really, I'm just trying to lose the fat. I play basketball every other day, walk a couple of miles on average every day.
From what I understand if I'm below 2000 what I eat matters less because I will burn through it all so the carbs don't store as fat.
I'll switch to a healthier diet in a couple of weeks when I'm out of this huge bag of rice I was given. I just want to make sure I'm below 1500 on the weekdays. |

| Looking, I see it is 200 most places. I found a place that said it was 180 per cup. I'll cut out a cup of rice in the evening. |

As for other foods the Kimche Chigae has cabbage, mushrooms, tofu, etc.
Thanks everyone. |

eat more meals, like 5 or 6 a day, at 3 hour intervals. eat more protein too (it takes more energy for your body to digest/metabolize protein than fat/carbs). e.g. eat an egg plus a few egg whites once or twice a day. also get off the white rice! it will really make a big difference. |

Although, according to my nutritionist, this is actually true, it is not very healthy for your body.
You still want to make sure you are getting the vitamins and nutrients that your body needs (multivitamin aside). Try to at least add some spinach or some leafy greans in with the rice so that you are getting enough folic acid (esp. of you are a woman) and vitamin Bs (energy boosters).
As for the differing calorie counts for rice, I would suggest going with the calorie king count since it is the most reputable and trustworthy site for such matters on the web.
I forgot to grab that sheet from home yesterday, will do so asap.
Cheers. |

One bowl of soup with a token amount of veggies, all cooked beyond recognition. No fresh veggies. No fruit at all.
Your poor body. |

dude cut out out the rice in the evening!!
you dont need that many carbs.. and dont go with boiled eggs every morning.. remember the yolk is the bad part.. why not go with egg whites!
or cereal sometimes too..
carbs for lunch is fine..
when do you work out/?
but if you want to lose weight.. then drop those carbs at night..
you dont need 3 bowls of rice..
if you are hungry for carbs then one bowl will be enough but make sure you eat some greens too.. chicken breast or salmon is what you want..
less carbs!!! |

I don't see the problem with carbs as long as you're getting them from real unprocessed food (from plant sources). Why not substitute some fruit and nuts for those morning eggs? I also agree that you could vary your dinners instead of always eating rice, and eat brown rice if you do want rice. You don't need meat - a few beans or nuts will give you all the protein and other nutrients you'd get from meat, plus some fiber and minus the saturated fat.
But please, please start eating more fresh fruit and vegetables. You're really committing suicide if you cut back in this area. (Now I just need to take my own advice. ) |

Are you a man or a woman?
If you are a woman, your plan looks ok (with the above referenced changes- more protein and natural foods, taper off your carbs so you aren't eating carbs at night, etc.). Just make sure your weight loss is not too dramatic. If after the first 2 weeks you are losing more than 2-3 pounds a week, your diet is not healthy, and it is almost guaranteed that you will put the wieght back on...and more.
If you are a guy, 1000-1500 calories is not even close to what you need, even on a diet, and ESPECIALLY if you are exercising. At that low of a calorie intake, your body goes into starvation mode. Your metabolism will slow to a crawl. Yes you will lose wieght. But you will be losing muscle along with the fat. The problem with this plan is that you can't live on this diet forever, and the fat will come back VERY fast (and usually with additional pounds), and your metabolism will not be as quick as it was before.
If you are a guy, shoot for about 2000+ calories a day (a bit more protein as has been recommended, as well as more frequent small meals, like every 3 hours. This will keep your metabolism high and you will burn more calories). You will lose wieght slower, but more likely to keep it off and create a lifestyle and habits you can live with the rest of your life.
At the beginning of a diet you may see alot of wieght loss if you are overwieight and haven't been exercising. But if after the first couple of weeks you are losing more than 2-3 pounds a week, you aren't eating enough! You have to eat to keep your body burning the calories. You lose the weight in your exercise! This is the healthy way! |

White rice is bad, bad, bad. I checked the caloric count on fitday.com for 1 cup of glutinous white rice and it's like 685kcal man! Frickin' A... I seriously recommend that you take the advice you've gotten from some posters here and 1.) register on 1 of those calorie counting websites b/c it's a real eye opener 2. ) please vary your diet with fruits and veggies 3. ) Don't think that Kimchi Jigae is a good source of anything but salt 4.) Don't go below 2500 Kcal being that you're a man and mightly one at that. 5. ) Don't go for huge weight loss in a short time like what it seems you're gunning for. Look at Al Roker's stomach for the effects of rapid weight loss.
It's so tempting to just through yourself into the dieting thing and go full force but ya gotta do it smart. You won't be able and won't want to maintain the diet you're eating now in the future , and then you'll gain back the weight you lost plus more! Slow and easy wins the race. |
