My new timetable has me doing seven classes straight with a five min break between.

My supposed "break" then comes after all my classes are finished. The school however, expects me to be there at the end of the day so I can't leave early.

I find this absurb, having dinner or whatever and then having to rush back just to sign out.

Basically, I said to them I'm going at the end of my classes as this is the only advantage to me of this crappy timetable. They won't budge on it and it's either accept it or resign...

What do people think?

Hand them your written notice and list that as the reason. They will back down.

I agree with you that it really is a crazy timetable to put you through... There are lots of reasons why that long without a break, other than the 5 minutes between them (which isn't long enough to really be a break for you.. It is more like a transition between the lessons). I know there would be a limit in how long I could last doing a timetable like that one ... To me it is just asking for trouble ... both for them and for you ... Even if your contract doesn't mention it ... go and have a look at the Korean Labour Act ... Somehow I would expect it to have some mention of reasonable time to work without a break

There is, I think it's four classes. I'm not really sure so hopefully one of the more experienced posters will jump on here.

Labor Standards Act

Article 53 (Recess Hours)

(1) An employer shall allow a recess period of more than 30 minutes for every 4 working hours and more than 1 hour for every 8 working hours during the working hours.

(2) A recess period may be freely used by workers.

Could that mean that with the 5 mins breaks times 6, he gets his 30mins? Basically, does the 30min break have to be consecutive?

Just a year and a half here and I'm already thinking like a hogwan manager! (I'm totally on your side on this, I'm in the same situation).

It states:

"...a recess period..."

Try reading that any other way than it's written, ie. one break, and i'm Barbara Streisand.

Same old crap sandwich- you either eat it or not, it's up to you.
