This song could, perhaps should, be the theme song of the "liberal left", given it was written and performed by a "liberal lefty." It's a protest of the Conservative agenda under Reagan and Bush in the 1980's, but plays even better given the events of the last six or seven years. Further, it puts the lie to the disgusting characterization of "liberals" as unpatriotic. It comes from one of the greatest albums little heard, Lives in the Balance.
