Take a look at the unrivaled, Ken Robinson as he speaks about education. Witty, revelational and inspiring. Are we pointing our kids in the right direction, regarding education or are we just dulling their senses and coming up short?
You won't regret the 20 min. you spend listening to Sir Ken.
Here is just a short.
"Three kids are performing the wise men part of a Christmas play. The first kid says, "I bring you gold" . The second kid says, "I bring you myrrh". The third kids says, "Frank sent this..."

yeah it's great -- thanks for providing the link
saw this last year at my sister-in-law's (TESOL prof in California)
and the discussion afterwards came down to:
he's a super performer (perhaps too much humor and more substance would have been great -- but can always read his book)
he's preaching to the choir (most western educational systems are very creative -- though the arts may be waning in popularity, the creativity in other skill levels is quite good, e.g., science) he should be presenting this in asia primarily
al gore stole the conference! |

Cranura,
I agree with most of what you are saying about Asian style education but with a caveat. I think you can apply your logic to all teachers, everywhere, when it comes to the use and application of new technologies in the classroom. (not creativity per se)
We think it happens a lot but it really doesn't. A lot is showcased but really that's about it. Not to discount all the dynamic teachers out there really being creative and providing students with content by means of their own world, not the old world. Too many analogue classrooms for digital students.
Especially in the area of language education, it is incumbent upon teachers to apply and give their students the technological tools and use for their own learning. The possibilities are immense and mind expanding.
Here is another of the many videos I have on my site, cheerleading this notion and explaining why it is so necessary.
