I found and booked a flight to Taiwan for late July. The price for after 7/22 is not published yet and won't be until 7/6, but the price up to 7/22 is reasonable so I booked a ticket. Apparently I'm under no obligation to buy the ticket until I know the price (seems a no-brainer).

Another travel agent gave me a better price to Taiwan for the same dates, only on Thai Air instead of Korean. The price will probably be 100,000 less. However, I'm on a waiting list there, though the agent thinks I'll definitely get a seat. Should I also book with this travel agent to be safe? Is double booking the norm, or is it a no-no?

Thanks!

Book as many as you want.

Koreans do it all the time - this is why there are never any seats and travellers are always on waiting lists.

Travel agents won't bat an eyelash.

And also why January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, and December are "busy season" in Korea.

Probably the most annoying thing about living in Korea. When you want to travel, it's ALWAYS busy season. Sad

You actually found a travel agent that will reserve you a ticket, and not expect you to pay immediately, or within a few days? Please tell me where this is.

Every travel agent I've used in the past 2 years has expected money to reserve a ticket, for the same reason as what's stated above. I bet they'll be expecting you to pay for a ticket very soon after you purchased it.

for one, Freedom Travel in Jongro. I booked a ticket 2 weeks ago, and don't have to pay for it until next weekend. They've always done it that way, and I've used them for 4-5 years now.

I booked with Shoestring Travel. They won't know the fare until early July, and then I'm sure I'll be expected to pay soon after. But I don't have to pay until I know and agree to the fare, of course. Since my flight is in late July I don't mind paying in early July...

I also booked with Kangsan Travel. I am on the waiting list (for a cheaper ticket than with Shoestring) and so don't have to pay right away, either.

That is such a load of B.S (from them). I got quotes of prices to Canada in August from them. This all happened in February. They totally have the prices.

Sure...the whole system is B.S. But all I can do is wait and hope that the price after 7/22 is similar to the price they gave me before 7/22. If the price rises significantly I can ditch them, as Kangsan seems sure they can get me a seat and already told me the (reasonable price).

The system does stink, though. I hope it's changed sometime.
